This paper reports on selected findings from a novel randomised controlled trial (RCT) conducted in mental health settings Queensland, Australia. Several national and state recently revealed the sub-optimal of Australian service provision which have direct implications for nursing, including privately experienced cost working coping these settings. Clinical supervision (CS), structured staff support arrangement, has shown promise as positive contribution to clinical practice development...
Bacterial analysis by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry has been demonstrated in numerous laboratories, and a few attempts have made to compare results from different laboratories on the same organism. It difficult understand causes behind observed differences between when instruments, matrices, solvents, etc. are used. In order establish this technique as useful tool for bacterial identification, additional efforts standardizing methods...
This paper reports on research commissioned by the English National Board for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting into mentorship clinical support arrangements Project 2000 nursing students in adult mental health branches Interviews observation data were gathered from staff three of demonstration centres Findings showed that terms ‘mentorship’, ‘assessor’ ‘supervisor’ used interchangeably covered diverse roles both community settings Generally there was an impression willing to help learn...
Abstract We describe a highly accurate and precise method for determination of total cholesterol in serum by isotope dilution/mass spectrometry. The was developed Study Group the Committee on Standards American Association Clinical Chemistry, use establishing accuracy candidate reference cholesterol, fulfills their criteria definitive method. Cholesterol-d7 is added to serum, with weight ratio cholesterol-d7 kept near 1:1. esters are hydrolyzed separated converted into trimethylsilyl ether...
Background: Antidepressant withdrawal is experienced by about half of people who try to reduce or come off their medication. It can be a debilitating, long lasting process. Many clinicians misdiagnose minimise symptoms, inadvertently prolonging suffering. Most are unable help patients safely taper off. There has been little research into the peer support communities that playing an increasingly important role in helping withdraw from psychiatric medications. Methods: To illustrate growth and...
Julie Winstanley and Edward White examine clinical supervision, which is increasingly being used as part of governance in various countries around the world. Originally published a monograph by Australian New Zealand College Mental Health Nurses (and appearing here with college's kind permission), this edited version original paper also discusses scope for evaluation approach

An exploratory study, funded by the Department of Health, London and Scottish Home Health Department, Edinburgh, was conducted over an 18‐month period to provide informed view on possible assessment tools that could be used assess impact clinical supervision (CS) in nursing report CS activities 23 selected sites England Scotland. The study not only examined utility several standardized research instruments, reported separately, but also explored experience a small sub‐sample nurses ( n =34)...
Extracutaneous infection from Petriellidium boydii is an unusual occurrence despite the ubiquity of organism in nature. Central nervous system by this extremely rare, only seven previous reports having been found. The rarity manifestation prompted report a brain abscess occurring previously healthy youth after near-drowning. source was likely to have river water at accident site, which P isolated. The Clinical Supervision Evaluation Project is a study of the effectiveness clinical supervision in nurses. As part this evaluation, we administered General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28), Maslach Burnout Inventory, Cooper's Coping Skills Scale, Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale and demographic checklist to 586 nurses 23 centres. Some 18 centres were chosen from England five Scotland. Results show that occupational stress levels are rising nursing. While there now greater focus on community...
An isotope dilution mass spectrometric (ID/MS) method for cholesterol is described that uses capillary gas chromatography with cholesterol-13C3 as the labeled internal standard. Labeled and unlabeled are converted to trimethylsilyl ether. Combined column electron impact spectrometry used obtain abundance ratio of [M+.] ions from derivative. Quantitation achieved by measurement each sample between measurements two standards whose unlabeled/labeled ratios bracket sample. Seven pools were...
Eight active supervision scholars provide their perspectives on priorities for advancing research in clinical supervision. Based proposals they presented at an invited symposium held during the 11th International Interdisciplinary Conference Clinical Supervision, authors propose questions around multicultural identities, supervisor expertise, models, and methods. Although neither a comprehensive nor exhaustive list of priorities, hope article encourages dialogue across disciplines countries...
