There is some uncertainty as to whether the distal metatarsal articular angle (DMAA) a real entity or just radiographic artifact and it can be reliably measured. If intrinsic bone, should not change with bone position. clinically useful, reproducible. Pre-operative post-operative radiographs of 32 patients undergoing proximal bony procedure first ray were evaluated independently by three foot ankle specialists in order determine intra inter-observer reliability (DMAA). In addition, hallux...

We analyzed self-reported outcomes in a prospective cohort of patients treated with ankle arthrodesis or total replacement (TAR) during time transition from older to newer-generation TAR implants. We performed study comparing 273 consecutive for arthritis between 2005 and 2011. Adult end-stage who were able walk willing respond surveys included the study. Patients excluded when they had another lower-limb problem that might affect walking. At baseline at 6, 12, 24, 36-month follow-up visits,...

Submission Type: Ankle Arthritis Research Level 2 - Prospective comparative study, Meta-analysis of studies or 1 with inconsistent results Introduction/Purpose: Patients seeking surgical treatment for end stage ankle arthritis (ESAA) have two primary options: arthrodesis (AA) and total arthroplasty (TAA). It is imperative to understand the long-term effectiveness these options. The objectives this study were compare treatments determine if trajectory improvement in patient reported outcomes...

Six cadaver specimens were loaded neutral alignment while measurements recorded. A 1-cm osteotomy shifted average center force 1.0 mm medially (p = 0.36) a 1.1 laterally 0.42). There was also slight shift percentage toward side talus which calcaneus shifted. For osteotomy, increased 4.0% lateral-most quadrant 0.05), 1.3% 0.30)....

Eleven feet (nine patients) with symptomatic flatfoot deformities of various etiologies that had failed nonoperative treatment underwent distal calcaneal lengthenings. Pre- and postoperative plantar pressure measurements radiographic parameters were compared a clinical evaluation was performed using the AOFAS ankle hindfoot scoring system. Follow-up ranged from 4 to 20 months (mean, 11.1 months). Plantar including contact area, mean, peak pressures indicated significant lateral shifts in...

The Evans calcaneal lengthening osteotomy has gained popularity in recent years for the treatment of symptomatic flexible pes planus deformity. To our knowledge, occurrence a stress fracture fifth metatarsal not been reported after this procedure. We report two such cases and discuss probable mechanism problem, relative overloading lateral aspect foot. Both were treated successfully with immobilization. Clinicians should be aware possible problem treat it appropriately.

Primary tarsometatarsal arthrosis is relatively uncommon. The etiology of osteoarthritis in the foot poorly understood, and it possible that mechanical or anatomic factors play a role.We compared relative length metatarsals patients with idiopathic midfoot group controls without arthrosis. Abstract This study compared the stability of periprosthetic femur fractures fixed using cortical allograft struts with a metal plate. Cadaveric specimens were loaded in single-leg stance and stair climbing to 2250 N. Optimum was achieved two long medially laterally. No clear advantage noted second strut climbing. Cables rather than wires useful stance, but not Allograft are biomechanically sound alternative plates screws cables for fracture fixation below well-fixed femoral component.

Between January 1988 and February 1995, 133 tethered spinal cord-release procedures in 88 consecutive patients were performed at our institution used to determine survivorship data for surgical release of cord. The diagnoses included dysraphism (67), achondroplasia(nine), isolated cord (nine), cerebral palsy (three), others(seven). Survivorship calculated the initial first-revision release. There was a 50% revision rate by 5 years after tethered-cord 57% 2 second Thirty-six excluded having...
