This study examines the role of self-regulated learning (SRL) in facilitating students' shifts to more sophisticated mental models circulatory system as indicated by both performance and process data. We began with Winne colleagues' information processing model SRL (Winne, 2001; & Hadwin, 1998) used it examine how students regulated their own when using a hypermedia environment learn about system. Undergraduate ( N = 24) were trained use Pretest, posttest, verbal protocol data collected...

Four ampicillin-resistant, beta-lactamase-producing strains of Haempohilus influenzae type b were examined for the presence plasmid deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). Three resistant contained a 30 x 10-6-dalton (30Mdal) and one resitant strain 3-Mdal plasmid. The ampicillin-sensitive Haemophilus did not contain DNA. Transformation sensitive H. to ampicillin resistance with isolated DNA preparations revealed that structural gene beta-lactamase resided on both species. DNA-DNA hybridization studies...

Background: Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is associated with tumor development in the brain, retina, kidney, skin, heart, and lung. Seizures, intellectual disability, characteristic skin lesions commonly manifest early childhood, but some findings, notably renal angiomyolipomas pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), emerge later, placing adults undiagnosed TSC at increased risk for morbidity mortality. Objective: To describe clinical presentation severity of adult women. Design:...

Clinical competency validation is essential for nurse practitioner (NP) education and public accountability. While there has been robust discussion around what constitutes clinical assessment, clear consistent definitions measurements remain elusive. This article describes the PRIME-NP model that scalable, reproducible accurately documents NP student across courses. To develop model, work in 5 discrete domains was necessary: (a) development, (b) assessment tool to be used Objective Structured...

This study assessed faculty members' perceived knowledge of medical genetics concepts and conditions, the importance integrating this content into NP curricula how was being done. During a national conference, 40 voluntarily completed surveys. Participants' varied; 35% noted low or very knowledge, only 5% reported high knowledge. Most participants (95%) believed is important, but 10% having separate courses in their programs. Approximately half personal involvement education, 50% barriers to...

Keeping up with the volume of new genetic information emerging from human genome project is a challenge for almost all healthcare providers, but nurses who received little or no formal training often find it particularly intimidating. Nursing faculty may be reluctant to add content existing courses, much less tackle work teaching an entire course in genetics. This article provides nursing some strategies and straightforward curriculum modifications assist them integrating into graduate-level...
