This paper addresses the problem of finding an analytical expression for end-to-end Average Bit Error Rate (ABER) in multihop Decode-and-Forward(DAF) routes within context wireless networks. We provide recursive most generic case any number hops and single-hop ABER every hop route. Then, we solve relationship two scenarios to obtain simple expressions ABER, namely: (a) The simplest case, where all relay channels have identical statistical behaviour; (b) general channel has a different...
In this work, we demonstrate how LaF3 nanoparticles activated with large concentrations (up to 25%) of Nd3+ ions can simultaneously operate as biologically compatible efficient nanoheaters and fluorescent nanothermometers under single beam (808 nm) infrared laser excitation. Nd3+:LaF3 emerge unique multifunctional agents that could constitute the first step towards future development advanced platforms capable simultaneous deep tissue fluorescence bio-imaging controlled photo-thermal therapies.
Quantum dot based-thermometry, in combination with double beam confocal microscopy and infrared thermal imaging, has been used to investigate the heating efficiency of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) under optical excitation within first (808 nm) second (1090 biological windows as well spectral region separating them (980 nm). It found that for three wavelengths MWCNTs (10 nm diameter 1.5 μm length) is close 50%. Despite this "flat" efficiency, we have wavelength is, indeed, critical...
A volcanic eruption early warning has to be launched with effectiveness and within the shortest time possible, which imposes requirement of using real-time (RT) systems. In this setting, volcano-monitoring systems wireless sensor networks (WSNs) may play a key role. Previous work did not report detailed-enough performance evaluation, in order identify their main constraints as RT systems, either simulation tools or testbed scenarios. The aim paper was optimum number sensors deployed...
The theory of complex networks, particularly climate networks (CN), is frequently used in the analysis data at different scales, serving both to investigate dynamics and understand extreme phenomena their temporal evolution. classic methodology for constructing CN relies on use correlation between pairs nodes network, determine existence a given link. resulting network structure can yield valuable insights about underlying physical phenomenon. state-of-the-art reveals multiple methods CN,...
The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation  (AMOC) is a vital climate system component, transporting heat and influencing the stability of regional global patterns. Recent research highlights its susceptibility to abrupt transitions driven by nonlinear feedback external variability, underscoring need for probabilistic understanding dynamics. The proposed framework incorporates stochastic forcing into deterministic box model simulate noise, such as fluctuating freshwater fluxes...
A detailed analysis of electrostatic interactions between a dc-biased tip and metallic or insulating sample is presented. By using simple method to calculate capacitances forces, shape effects on the force versus tip-sample distance curves are dicussed in detail. For samples law, except for constant background, only depends radius curvature. In contrast, dielectric forces depend overall geometry tip. Interestingly, we found that contact (adhesion) does not size bound by expression which...
Algorithms that jointly allocate resources across different layers are envisioned to boost the performance of wireless systems. Recent results have revealed two most important parameters critically affect resulting cross-layer designs channel- and queue-state information (QSI). Motivated by these results, this paper relies on stochastic convex optimization develop optimal algorithms use instantaneous fading queue length at transport (flow-control), link, physical layers. Focus is placed a...
Self-organizing algorithms (SOAs) for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) usually seek to increase the lifetime, minimize unnecessary transmissions or maximize transport capacity. The goal left out in design of this type is capability WSN ensure an accurate reconstruction sensed field while maintaining self-organization. In work, we formulate a general framework where data from resulting clusters ensures well-posedness signal processing problem cluster. We develop second-order data-coupled...
Energy efficiency has been a leading issue in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) and produced vast amount of research. Although the classic tradeoff between quality gathered data versus lifetime network, most works gave preference to an increased network at expense quality. A common approach for energy is partitioning into clusters with correlated data, where representative nodes simply transmit or average measurements inside cluster. In this paper, we explore joint use in-network processing...
New generation open-irrigated catheters aim to improve irrigation efficiency. This may change lesion patterns, challenging operators. Indeed, safety issues have recently arisen. We aimed experimentally assess 4 catheters, comparing size, safety, and heat transfer. The thigh model was employed in 6 anesthetized pigs the morphology of perpendicular tangential lesions (n = 140) created by newer ThermoCool® SF, CoolFlex™, Blazer™ Open-Irrigated, standard ThermoCool®, at a constant power 30 W (60...
The absorption efficiencies of gold nanorods working in the first and second biological windows are investigated.
This work presents an analysis of low-visibility event persistence and prediction at Villanubla Airport (Valladolid, Spain), considering Runway Visual Range (RVR) time series in winter. The covers long- short-term the series, with different approaches. In case long-term analysis, a Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA) approach is applied order to estimate large-scale RVR similarities. events evaluated by means Markov chain binary associated events. We finally discuss hourly events, using...
This work presents a full statistical analysis and accurate prediction of low-visibility events due to fog, at the A-8 motor-road in Mondoñedo (Galicia, Spain). The present covers two years study, considering visibility time series exogenous variables collected zone affected most by extreme events. paper has then two-fold objective: first, we carry out for estimating fittest probability distributions fog event duration, using Maximum Likelihood method an alternative known as L-moments...
Sparsity and entropy are pillar notions of modern theories in signal processing information theory. However, there is no clear consensus among scientists on the characterization these notions. Previous efforts have contributed to understand individually sparsity or from specific research interests. This paper proposes a mathematical formalism, joint axiomatic characterization, which contributes comprehend (the beauty of) entropy. The gathers introduces inherent first principles criteria as...
Although a number of methods have been proposed for T-Wave Alternans (TWA) detection and estimation, their performance strongly depends on signal processing stages free parameters tuning.
