The $\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\alpha}$ phase transition in cerium metal has been studied by temperature-dependent bremsstrahlung isochromat, core-level x-ray photoemission, and electron-energy-loss spectroscopy. experimental results can be coherently analyzed within the many-body formalism of Gunnarsson Sch\"onhammer. We find that $f$ occupation ${n}_{f}$ is reduced \ensuremath{\sim}15% while conduction-electron hybridization $\ensuremath{\Delta}$ increases from...

Twenty‐two female carriers of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) presenting with myopathic symptoms have been examined. Eleven were definite carriers, aged 29 to 79 years, and 11 possible 4 57 years. There was considerable variation in the clinical manifestations course myopathy, which many cases resembled autosomal recessive limb girdle type (LGMD). Serum levels creatine kinase significantly greater manifesting than non‐manifesting DMD patients LGMD. Ten out 22 familial cases, being either...

Angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy has been used to study the changes in bonding of CO when coadsorbed with alkali-metal atoms. On metal surfaces [Cu(100) and Ru(0001)] various features photoemission spectra, including reduced site symmetry a large shift $1\ensuremath{\pi}$ molecular orbital CO, indicate $\ensuremath{\pi}$-bonded configuration molecule. $\ensuremath{\pi}$ involves through both $2{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{*}$ orbitals CO. All data short-range interaction between K

The four stereoisomers of the grass herbicide Metolachlor, isomerism which is based on a combination chiral centre and axis, were prepared, their absolute configurations determined by X-ray analysis. synthesis was achieved using optically active starting materials new carbamates as intermediates. herbicidal activity mainly influenced centre, S-isomers being most ones.

Core-excitation edges in metallic La, Th, and U have been investigated by electron-energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) x-ray photoelectron (XPS). Strong excitation-energy-dependent variations of the EELS spectra are observed shown to be due energy dependence scattering cross section. An analysis Th $4f$ an atomic picture indicates $5f$ symmetry for realized final states. Furthermore, La $3d$ $4d$ as well $5d$ core-excitation edges, a multiplet calculation intermediate coupling was carried out,...

Two cases, a boy and girl, with the 11q-(Jacobsen) syndrome are reported. Findings common to both typical for this chromosome aberration include narrow protruding forehead, hypertelorism, non-horizontal position of eyes, ptosis, strabismus, broad root, short upturned tip thenose, carp mouth, receding chin, misshapen ears, simian creases, severe mental retardation. In addition, one patient had pyloric stenosis an inguinal hernia. Growth retardation microcephaly were not found in either them....
