Abstract This work evaluated the importance of sleep on mood and cognition after 24 h exposure to hypoxia. Ten males, aged 23–30 years, were placed in a normobaric chamber simulating an altitude 4,500 m. Sleep assessments conducted from 22:00–6:00; all cognitive performed 20 min awakening. The normoxic conditions was reevaluated 14 start hypoxic conditions, state functions conditions. Hypoxia reduced total time, efficiency, slow‐wave sleep, rapid eye movement. Depressive mood, anger, fatigue...
OBJECTIVE: Mood disorders are a frequent problem in old age, and their symptoms constitute an important public health issue. These alterations affect the quality of life mainly by restricting social life. The participation regular exercise program is effective way reducing or preventing functional decline associated with aging. aim present study was to examine effects fitness-endurance activity (at intensity Ventilatory Threshold 1 (VT-1)) depression, anxiety scores seniors. METHODS:...
Embora haja grande controvérsia, diversos estudos têm demonstrado que melhora protege a cerebral, sugerindo pessoas fisicamente ativas apresentam menor serem acometidas desordens mentais...
As aging advances, changes in mood and anxiety may imply greater risk of disorders, particularly depression. Resistance exercise reduces lessens depression the elderly, but little is known mechanisms involved. It was hypothesized that human growth factor (IGF-1) improve elderly participants given resistance training. 43 men ages 65 to 75 years were randomly assigned two groups, Control ( n = 23) high Exercise 20). After 24 wk., group showed improved muscular strength higher IGF-1 serum...
Despite the increasing prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, its pathogenesis and clinical significance remain poorly defined there is no ideal treatment. The aim this study was to assess short-term (12-week) multidisciplinary therapy on visceral adiposity disease control. We evaluated compared distribution by ultrasonography, in 73 post-puberty obese participants (17.01+/-1.6 years old; body mass index 36.54+/-2.86 kg/m), submitted a treatment without medications, at beginning after...
Obesity has adverse physical, social, and economic consequences that can negatively affect quality of life (QOL). Thus the aim this study was to verify effects a long-term multidisciplinary lifestyle intervention on QOL, body image, anxiety, depression binge eating in obese adolescents. Sixty-six adolescents (41 girls 25 boys; BMI: 35.62 ± 4.18 kg/m2) were recruited from Multidisciplinary Intervention Program outpatient clinic, submitted therapy (short-term = 12 weeks 24 weeks), composed...
Because paradoxical sleep deprivation (PSD) induces a catabolic hormone profile, we sought to evaluate the morphology of tibialis anterior (TA) muscle and testosterone corticosterone levels sleep-deprived rats.Three study groups rats were established: first group was deprived for 96 h; second also h, but then returned their home-cage allowed next third control group, with normal cycle.PSD reduced weight fiber cross-sectional area TA muscle. Moreover, PSD enhanced plasma serum levels. The h...
ABSTRACT Purpose Sleep is considered essential for muscle recovery, mainly due to its effect on hormone secretion. Total sleep deprivation or restriction known alter not only blood hormones but also cytokines that might be related skeletal recovery. This study aimed evaluate whether total after eccentric exercise-induced damage (EEIMD) modifies the profiles of and cytokines. Methods In two separate conditions, with a crossover randomized model, 10 men (age, 24.5 ± 2.9 yr; body mass index,...
Iron is an essential micronutrient for several physiological functions, including the regulation of dopaminergic neurotransmission. On other hand, both iron, and dopamine can affect folding aggregation proteins related with neurodegenerative diseases, such as cellular prion protein (PrPC) α-synuclein, suggesting that deregulation iron homeostasis consequential disturbance metabolism be a risk factor conformational diseases. These proteins, in turn, are known to participate metabolism. In...
Sleep deprivation (SD) can induce muscle atrophy. We aimed to investigate the changes underpinning SD-induced atrophy and impact of this condition on rats that were previously submitted resistance training (RT). Adult male Wistar EPM-1 randomly allocated into 1 5 groups: control, sham, SD (for 96 h), RT, RT+SD. The major outcomes study fiber cross-sectional area (CSA), anabolic catabolic hormone profiles, abundance select proteins involved in protein synthesis degradation pathways. resulted...
The aim was observe the influence of sleep deprivation (SD) and recovery on muscle regeneration process in rats submitted to cryolesion.Thirty-two Wistar were randomly allocated four groups: control (CTL), SD for 96 h (SD96), plus period (CTL + R) SD96h (SD96 R). animals injury by cryolesioning, after recovery. The major outcomes this study reduction muscular IGF-1 both legs (injured uninjured) a delay compared that slept, with increase connective tissue, inflammatory infiltrate minor...
Sleep is important for maintenance of skeletal muscle health. debt can induce atrophy by increasing glucocorticoids and decreasing testosterone, growth hormone insulin-like factor-I. These hormonal alterations result in a highly proteolytic environment characterized decreased protein synthesis increased degradation. Given that sleep deprivation increasingly prevalent modern society, strategies to minimize or reverse its adverse effects need be investigated. Resistance exercise has been...
Physical exercise influences homocysteine (Hcy) concentrations, cognitive function and the metabolic profile. The purpose of this study was to investigate influence regular physical on Hcy levels, profile in healthy elderly males before after an endurance program.Forty-five sedentary volunteers were randomized into 2 groups: (1) a control group asked not change their normal everyday activities start any program (2) experimental trained at heart rate intensity corresponding ventilatory...
