Infrared spectroscopic studies of ultraviolet (UV) irradiated, water-rich, cosmic ice analogs containing small polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are described. The irradiation anthracene:H2O, pyrene:H2O, and benzo[ghi]perylene:H2O ices (14 K) at various concentrations reported by Bouwman et al. extended. While alcohols ketones have been in residues after irradiated PAH:H2O were warmed to 270 K, it was not known if they formed during or warm-up when reactants interact as H2O sublimes....

Despite being trace constituents of the lunar exosphere, sodium and potassium are most readily observed species due to their bright line emission. Measurements these by Ultraviolet Visible Spectrometer (UVS) on Lunar Atmosphere Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE) have revealed unambiguous temporal spatial variations indicative a strong role for meteoroid bombardment surface composition in determining local time dependence Moon's exosphere. Observations show distinct day (monthly) cycles both...

Methanol (CH3OH) is thought to be an important link in the chain of chemical evolution that leads from simple diatomic interstellar molecules complex organic species protoplanetary disks may delivered surfaces Earthlike planets. Previous research has shown CH3OH forms medium predominantly on dust grains. To enhance our understanding conditions lead its efficient production, we assemble a homogenized catalog published detections and limiting values preplanetary ices for both other commonly...

We report the first science results from Space Environment Viability of Organics (SEVO) payload aboard Organism/Organic Exposure to Orbital Stresses (O/OREOS) free-flying nanosatellite, which completed its nominal spaceflight mission in May 2011 but continues acquire data biweekly. The SEVO integrates a compact UV-visible-NIR spectrometer, utilizing Sun as light source, with 24-cell sample carousel that houses four classes vacuum-deposited organic thin films: polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon...

This technical note describes a novel solar simulation experiment designed to mimic the radiation experienced by Organism/Organics Exposure Orbital Stresses (O/OREOS) nanosatellite in low-Earth orbit. Thin films of organic compounds within hermetically sealed sample cells (identical and spaceflight mission) were exposed simulated AM0 laboratory for total 6 months, monitored spectral changes at two-week intervals. The accurately ultraviolet visible irradiance 2% from 200–1000 nm Lyα (121.6...

We report results from the exposure of metalloporphyrin iron tetraphenylporphyrin chloride (FeTPPCl) to outer space environment, measured in situ aboard Organism/Organic Exposure Orbital Stresses nanosatellite. FeTPPCl was exposed for a period 17 months (3700 h direct solar exposure), which included broad-spectrum radiation (∼122 nm near infrared). Motivated by potential role metalloporphyrins as molecular biomarkers, thin-film samples environment low-Earth orbit monitored via...

Most major cities worldwide are affected Urban Heat Islands – a condition of relatively higher temperatures being observed in one area compared to another that can be caused by decrease greenspace. One the reasons attributed this increase warming urban landscapes is green space. This concept has received lot attention due destruction vegetation for development and prompted long-term spatial-temporal studies understanding local climates. The objective study use Landsat data examine temporal...

Methyl parathion (MP) was used illegally to spray homes for insect control over approximately an 8-yr period. In attempt determine if there were any adverse health effects from this, health-screening evaluations performed on 353 individuals living in that sprayed. The average subject spent 15.5 h a day the home. Subjects with high levels of MP (exposure group) compared controls lived minimal or no MP. aware found their and recall bias likely.
