Feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) is endemic in captive cheetahs and sporadically causes devastating disease. Modified live vaccines (MLV), intended for use domestic cats, are used some cheetah populations have been anecdotally linked to disease certain subpopulations. Ten FHV-1 isolates from ten one isolate an MLV inoculate four of the host animals were analyzed. Viral DNA was extracted full-genome sequencing by Illumina MiSeq with viral genomes then phylogenomic recombinational analyses....
A 55-year-old woman was hospitalized with a 7-month history of progressive dyspnea on exertion and hypoxia despite normal echocardiogram. The onset her symptoms correlated dosage increase venlafaxine. multichannel computed tomography scan showed ground-glass opacities, an open lung biopsy revealed interstitial pneumonitis consistent extrinsic allergic alveolitis. Venlafaxine discontinued, corticosteroid therapy started; the patient's improved infiltrates evident chest radiographs were...
The pathogenesis of steatitis that infrequently occurs in cold-stunned Kemp’s ridley sea turtles (KRT; Lepidochelys kempii) has been undetermined. objectives this study were to investigate the clinical (n = 23) and histologic findings 11) KRT, compare plasma concentrations α-tocopherol (vitamin E), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), TBARS vitamin E (T/E) ratio (an assessment oxidative stress) between KRT with clinically and/or histologically confirmed 10) free-ranging 9). None...
A 10-year-old, female umbrella cockatoo (Cacatua alba) was presented for evaluation of a mass at the right commissure beak, with associated periorbital swelling. feather cyst suspected, based on history and results computed tomography scan fine-needle aspirate. The surgically debrided removed. Histopathologic confirmed an infraorbital keratin cyst, most likely originating from follicle. To our knowledge, this is first reported case in bird.
Abstract Objective To perform retrospective analysis of captive pteropodid bats presented to the University Florida for ocular or adnexal disease from 2003–2020. Animals studied Twenty‐four individuals seven species were included. Procedures Records analyzed process, methods treatment, and surgical techniques complications. Results The most frequently reported abnormality was corneal (79%), followed by cataracts (54%), uveitis (42%). Corneal primarily attributed either trauma exposure...
Austwickia (Dermatophilus) chelonae is a filamentous, Gram-positive Actinobacteria in the Dermatophilaceae family. It has caused fatal granulomatous disease diverse captive reptile species on three continents, but its presence wild or free-ranging populations was unknown. An adult female gopher tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) presented euhydrated, cachectic and infested with ticks, two firm, encapsulated masses over cranioventral neck right stifle. The had moderate nonregenerative anemia...
Carbon dioxide (CO2 ) lasers are used for a variety of soft tissue procedures. This report describes their use in dermatitis associated with feline herpesvirus-1 (FHV) two cheetahs. To the best authors' knowledge, this is first describing CO2 laser to adjunctively treat FHV-associated skin lesions.Les au dioxyde de carbone (CO2) sont utilisés pour une variété procédures sur les tissus mous. Ce rapport décrit leur utilisation dans la dermatite associée à l'herpèsvirus félin-1 chez deux...
