現在日本で保険適応のある嗅覚検査には, 基準嗅力検査と静脈性嗅覚検査の二種あるが, 基準嗅力検査は実施率, 普及率ともに低く, 静脈性嗅覚検査は疼痛を伴う検査であり患者への侵襲が高い. 嗅覚同定能検査の一つとして開発されたOpen Essence (以下, OE) は, 現在医療保険の適応はないが, その臨床的有用性が期待されている. 今回われわれは嗅覚障害患者に対するOEと自覚症状, 基準嗅力検査, および静脈性嗅覚検査との比較検討を行った. 当院嗅覚外来患者のうち, 嗅覚の評価が可能であった122例を対象とした. OEスコアと基準嗅力検査, 静脈性嗅覚検査, また嗅覚障害に対する自覚症状としてのVisual Analog Scale (VAS) と日常のにおいアンケートとの間にはそれぞれ有意な相関を認めた. また静脈性嗅覚検査において嗅覚脱失を認めた群はOEの正答率が有意に低かった. 自給肥料中心であった江戸時代から明治初期にかけての農村における土地利用を明らかにするため, 当時の土地利用を記した迅速測図の原図をGISで読み取り解析した。研究対象として, 北関東の代表的な谷津田地形を有する茨城県牛久・岡見地区を選択した。解析の結果, 当時の牛久・岡見地区では, 谷津田間に自給肥料供給地として共同利用されていたと思われる林地や草地が多く見られた。農村周辺には畑地と林地, 村から離れた台地上の中心地域には草地が配置される「村落-畑地-林地-草地-林地-畑地-村落」といった連鎖的土地利用が存在していたことが判明した。
