Travel medicine focuses primarily on pre-travel preventive care and the conditions diseases acquired during or after travel. There is a paucity of validated tools to assess knowledge, attitude practises physicians with regard travel medicine. We attempted develop tool existing expertise among Medicine Infectious Diseases resident doctors respect medicine.Item level content validity index (I-CVI) scale (S-CVI/Ave) were estimated for each items establish validity. Refined measures inter-rater...
Acanthamoebic encephalitis is a rare and highly fatal disease that has no standard management protocol. Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) causes immune dysfunction may predispose patients to this infection. The present study describes successful of acanthamoebic in young male who recently recovered from COVID-19 using combination medical surgical approaches. A miltefosine with other agents trophicidal cysticidal activities should be used the regimen. Surgical excision abscess undertaken whenever feasible.
Background: The coverage of immunization amongst adults in India remains low; a lack nationally endorsed guidelines and implementation policies is contributing factor. There paucity tools available to assess knowledge, attitude, practices (KAP) regarding adult immunization. Hence, we attempted develop KAP questionnaire evaluate the existing expertise among medicine infectious diseases resident doctors an apex medical institute India. Methods: A two-stage scheme for development validation was...
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common cause of morbidity among hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients, with RSV-associated lower respiratory tract infection carrying high mortality rates. There have been no large studies till date, describing the incidence, clinical features, and outcomes RSV adult HSCT recipients in India.A prospective cohort 100 adults who underwent was followed up for maximum period 18 months starting from date transplantation any episode infectious...
Abstract Background Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients; progression from Upper Tract Infection (URI) to Lower (LRTI) may occur 30%–40% recipients with associated high fatality. Data on disease burden due RSV among adult HSCT limited no earlier reports India. Methods We prospectively studied 50 who underwent transplantation at our institute January 2017 onwards. Patients were followed up...
Intraventricular Administration of Cefepime for the Treatment Meningitis due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Background: Tenofovir-based regimens remain the first choice for treatment of human immunodeficiency virus infection and hepatitis B infection. Despite its virologic efficacy ease administration, it can lead to significant nephrotoxicity which may not be fully reversible. Case Description: An elderly gentleman on Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF)-based antiretroviral therapy 10 years presented with vague symptoms fatigue, poor oral intake constipation. He was found have hypokalemia a...
Background: It has been more than 17 years since the introduction of free ART in India. At this point, it would be prudent to look at factors associated with survival persons living human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired syndrome (AIDS) (PLHA) who are already enrolled program. Methods: PLHAs from antiretroviral therapy (ART) centers located three different cities India – Delhi, Pune and Kolkata, were followed up six monthly intervals monitoring WHO stage, CD4 counts, complete blood...
Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a rare cause of infective endocarditis. There no standard treatment regimen for the management endocarditis caused by this organism. produces biofilm on endocardial surface which can be difficult to eradicate, and monotherapy with traditional beta-lactam agent may fail due inadequate penetration into low or absent activity non-dividing cells. Prolonged courses surgical intervention required treat infection. Case Description: A case P. showed response...
Background: The prevalence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in India according to 2019 estimates is 0·22%. Understanding the factors influencing survival persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) who are on antiretroviral therapy (ART) essential implement strategies aimed at improving their duration and quality survival. Methods: PLHA patients enrolled from ART centres 3 different cities – Delhi, Pune Kolkata were followed up six monthly intervals screened for WHO stage, CD4 counts,...
Abstract Persons living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired syndrome (AIDS) (PLHA) enrolled from antiretroviral therapy (ART) centers located in three different cities India – Delhi, Pune and Kolkata, were followed up at six monthly intervals monitoring the WHO stage, CD4 counts, complete blood counts liver kidney function tests, for a duration of years. The incidence mortality among HIV/AIDS patients on ART was 5·0 per 1000 patient years (21/1410, 1.4%). Age initiation being...
Haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients are at higher risk of morbidity and mortality due to respiratory infections their frequency is not well studied in Indian HSCT recipients. A cohort 55 were enrolled prospectively for episodes. Real-time polymerase chain reaction was performed viral aetiology. total 153 episodes acute occurred, [107 (mean; 2.8/patient) autologous (n=38); 46 2.7/patients) allogeneic (n=17)]. From these episodes, 70 samples could be tested viruses, which 33...
