The recently described Modified Fels wrist skeletal maturity system (mFels SMS) allows for accurate estimation using a single anteroposterior radiograph but requires evaluation of 8 parameters. A faster method may have clinical utility in the outpatient setting. radiographic parameters comprising mFels SMS were analyzed 80 children. Segmented linear regression and generalized estimating equation (GEE) analyses used to identify subsets most important different patient demographics parameter...
Objectives: To report on pin-related complications in patients who underwent temporary staging external fixation using a self-drilling pin insertion technique. Design: Retrospective cohort study Setting: Single tertiary referral level one trauma center Patient Selection Criteria: Adult were included spanning of the lower extremity (AO/OTA 32, 33, 41, 42, 43, 44, 81, 82, 83, 84, and 85 fractures) self-tapping pins placed technique (Stryker Hoffman External Fixation System, Kalamazoo, MI, USA)...
Background: Accurate assessment of the femoral version can be challenging in operating room. We evaluated if an observer reliably and accurately determine when a neck is parallel to floor with modified C-arm technique. compared this technique previously reported Ogata-Goldsand for determining intraoperative version. Methods: To evaluate level ground, 72 cadaveric femurs were photographed laterally at proximal femur bone rotated simulate ranging from −20 degrees +20 5-degree increments. These...
Increased body mass index (BMI) is a well-documented risk factor for complications after lower extremity arthroplasty. The literature in total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) displays notable variation. utility of BMI predicting TSA may be limited because differences weight distribution. Prior studies spine surgery have demonstrated increased based on subcutaneous fat depth at the incision site. purpose this study was to determine whether tissue associated with an complication primary TSA. A...
Abstract Background: Informed consent is a crucial component of building the patient-physician relationship, and it typically involves conversation between patient provider along with written document. The purpose this study was to determine whether use electronic educational resources in addition paper handouts would improve comprehension retention informed for hip arthroscopy procedures. Methods: Patients undergoing were enrolled prospectively, they randomized into two groups at their...
Background: The effectiveness of tranexamic acid (TXA) as an antifibrinolytic agent in total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) is well documented; however, there remains considerable practice variability concerning the optimal route administration and dosing protocols medication's use. Our aim was to conduct a scoping review literature regarding efficacy various methods TXA TSA identify knowledge gaps that may be addressed. Methods: A conducted according Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic...
Gender and racial disparities remain prevalent in academic surgery. Moreover, reports on distributions are scarce. We aim to assess the state of diversity among faculty fellowship trainees hand surgery identify if program correlates with trainee diversity. Working from American Society for Surgery Hand (ASSH) list, a database 84 programs, 622 faculty, 582 recently graduated fellows was created. ASSH Association (AAHS) membership databases clinical research websites were accessed determine...
Academic advancement in plastic surgery necessitates creation of opportunities for rising faculty, which are pivotal women their efforts to close prominent gender gaps higher ranks. We study positions academic prestige that benefit from internal nomination as surrogates afforded men and seeking leadership roles. We collected the following datapoints: authors invited discussions published Plastic Reconstructive Surgery 2010 2019; current editorial board members representative journals;...

Valiant disruptors have pertinaciously highlighted the overt discrepancies that exist between careers of male and female surgeons, most notably few women successfully assumed position leadership.1 Lack mentorship, home life responsibilities, demands childbearing, among others, are recurrent themes.2 It is time to disentangle gender racial biases, which impede progress, develop equitable solutions....
Endometriosis is a disorder that commonly affects females of reproductive age and defined as the presence endometrial glands or stroma outside uterine cavity. Patients typically present with cyclical pain during menses. can be characterized endopelvic extrapelvic depending on sites involved. We report case 40-year-old, right-hand-dominant, female who presented painful mass in her right proximal forearm. She was ultimately diagnosed intramuscular endometriosis underwent surgical excision.
We report the case of a 34-year-old woman with chronic right volar dislocation distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) and associated ulnar styloid fracture. The patient presented 1 month after dog bite injury wrist pain limited range motion, radiographs demonstrated DRUJ dislocation. Closed reduction was unsuccessful, thus, open performed.
