Abstract Risk factors for acquiring hepatitis E among individuals in industrialized countries including Japan are not fully understood. We investigated whether Japanese blood donors with or without an elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT) level likely to have virus (HEV) infection. Serum samples were collected from 5,343 voluntary 1,087 ALT of 61–966 IU/L and 4,256 normal (≤60 IU/L) at two Red Cross Blood Centers, tested the presence anti‐HEV IgG by in‐house enzyme‐linked immunosorbent...

Apicomplexan parasites are causative agents of various diseases including malaria and have been targets extensive genomic sequencing. We generated 5'-EST collections for six apicomplexa using our full-length oligo-capping cDNA library method. To improve upon the current genome annotations, as well to validate importance physical clone resources, we a large-scale collection cDNAs several parasites. In this study, used total 61,056 5'-end-single-pass sequences from Plasmodium falciparum, P....

1,6-Anhydro-D-hexofuranoses, such as 1,6-anhydro-β-D-glucofuranose (1), 1,6-anhydro-β-D-mannofuranose (2), and 1,6-anhydro-α-D-galactofuranose (3), were polymerized using a thermally induced cationic catalyst in dry propylene carbonate to afford hyperbranched polysaccharides (poly1-3) with degrees of branching from 0.40 0.46. The weight-average molecular weights poly1-3 measured by multiangle laser light scattering varied the range (1.02 5.84) × 10(4) g·mol(-1), which significantly higher...

This study investigated the decomposition behavior of bamboo under hydrothermal and hydrolysis conditions with H2O/CO2 in a semicontinuous-flow reactor at 9.8 MPa. At 255 °C, without CO2, xylan completely decomposed into xylo-oligosaccharide (XOD). The yield glucan degradation products CO2 was significantly higher compared that reaction (25.7 vs 14.9 wt %, respectively). rate slightly than (kH2O/CO2/kH2O = 1.3). Increasing fluid velocity (3–10 mL/min) accelerated solubilization rate, but...

Full-Malaria/Parasites is a database for transcriptome studies of apicomplexa and other parasites, which based on our original full-length cDNA sequences physical clone resources. In this update, the has been expanded to contain shogun sequencing entire 14,818 non-redundant clones from six parasites 6.8 million transcription start sites (TSS), both had produced by novel protocols using oligo-capping method Illumina GA sequencer. The former should be ultimate data exact annotation expressed...

Microwave irradiation at different frequencies gave unique results for the hydrolyses of glycosyl bonds by β-Glucosidase HT1. With observed relative complex permittivity data reaction buffer, 2.45 GHz microwave radiation affected both waters and ions, while 5.80 only waters. We, here, propose that would be one "microwave nonthermal effects".

Catalytic activity for coal liquefaction of sulfate-promoted iron oxide was investigated by a high-pressure differential thermal analysis technique and an autoclave test. It found X-ray photoelectron spectrometry that the main component catalyst oxide, but this included 1.1 wt % sulfur. A particular finding from these experiments showed sufficiently high without added sulfur comparable to activities with FeS2 in range temperatures between 375 450 °C. This very interesting because...

Abstract Polycondensation reactions between amino acids and phenols are one of the pathways for formation humic substances, clay minerals able to catalyse these reactions. To investigate catalytic power allophane, an allophane fraction (ALF) was separated from weathered pumice (WP) that contained imogolite as impurity by taking advantage differences in sedimentation velocity. The iron content ALF increased up 3.0% compared starting WP (1.3%), further treated with sodium dithionate citric...
