Termites may emit large quantities of methane, carbon dioxide, and molecular hydrogen into the atmosphere. Global annual emissions calculated from laboratory measurements could reach 1.5 x 10(14) grams methane 5 10(16) dioxide. As much as 2 also be produced. Field two termite nests in Guatemala corroborated results. The largest should occur tropical areas disturbed by human activities.

New palladium (Pd)II and platinum (Pt)II complexes (C1–C5) from the Schiff base ligands, R-(phenyl)methanamine (L1), R-(pyridin-2-yl)methanamine (L2), R-(furan-2-yl)methanamine (L3) (R-(E)-N-((1H-pyrrol-2-yl) methylene)) are herein reported. The were characterized by FTIR, 1H 13C NMR, UV–vis, microanalyses. Single-crystal X-ray crystallographic analysis was performed for two ligands (L1–L2) a Pt complex. Both L1 L2 belong to P21/n monoclinic P-1 triclinic space systems, respectively. complex...

Pesticides have been used in the continent for about eight decades. Major use has agriculture, livestock development, and disease vectors control. Recent international conventions made with little scientific data information on tropical situation. Rapid development of resistance to pesticides demands better understanding pest management. Tropical research organochlorine show rapid degradation pattern, low residue levels, widespread distribution. Given above, there is a need factor into...

The recent executive orders by President Donald Trump to withdraw the United States (U.S.) from World Health Organization (WHO) and Paris Climate Agreement, compounded a 90-day freeze on U.S. Foreign Assistance, present significant challenges global health efforts. These actions threaten exacerbate existing crises, undermine decades of security gains, leave Africa world more vulnerable infectious diseases public threats. decisions will likely hinder future initiatives disrupt critical...

In this work, the adsorption-desorption dynamics of diuron in three typical Kenyan agricultural soils, Nzoia (NZ), Thika (TH) and Machakos (MK) was investigated. The equilibrium adsorption data, tested against classical nonlinear isotherms, best described by Freundlich model. constant, (KF), increased order MK > TH NZ soil. Additionally, negative Gibb's free energy values indicate processes were thermodynamically spontaneous physical. Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that...

To investigate land use cover changes (LULCC) in the Kieni sub-county Central Kenya from 1987 to 2017, remote sensing and Geographical Information System (GIS) was used. This done by downloading processing landsat images of 1987, 1995, 2000, 2010 2017. Methods employed were, data identification acquisition, image processing, validation presentation. There were six classifications analysed which were; bare areas, bushlands, farmlands, forest, grasslands waterbodies. The results showed an...

Abstract Roasted meat is known to be a major source of human exposure PAHs. The contribution direct-heat charcoal-roasted, electric- oven grilled, and shallow-pan fried in Kisumu City was not although the three modes cooking are very prevalent. This study analyzed concentrations PAHs raw beef, goat meat, pork, investigated effect charcoal roasting, electric-oven grilling, frying on these concentrations, compared their concentration levels with international standards for foods order assess...

Results of field and laboratory studies on adsorption/desorption, leaching, dissipation, bound residue formation metabolism DDT, DDE, lindane, parathion, malathion, dimethoate carbofuran in tropical soils various regions Kenya are summarized this paper. Based reported half‐lives dissipation temperate soils, DDE lindane were found to dissipate much more rapidly soil conditions with 64.5–245.6, 145 5–8 days, respectively. Carbofuran (t 1/2 = 66–115.5 days), malathion 36.7–770 parathion 48days)...
