This resulted in release approximately 46 million hatchlings apparent recovery these species some areas; however, this ranching program faces operational bureaucratic difficulties. In addition, harvesting wild populations is banned by Brazilian law, thereby excluding local villagers from using natural resource.

The Yellow-spotted River Turtle ( Podocnemis unifilis Troschel, 1848) and the South American (Podocnemis expansa (Schweigger, 1812)) are two turtles species that widely distributed have ecological, economic, cultural importance in Amazon basin. Although sympatric regarding most of their distribution, few studies addressed coexistence these species. To examine this, we analyzed trophic level primary carbon source from diets both Baixo Araguaia, Tocantins, Brazil, using stable isotope analyses...

Abstract The aim of the present study was to investigate sequence shell bone formation in embryos Pleurodira, Podocnemis unifilis . Their bones and cartilage were collected cleared before staining. also examined by obtaining a series histological slices. All bony elements plastron have independent ossification centers, which subsequently join together retain two fontanelles until period hatching. This turtle has mesoplastra, is characteristic Podocnemididae carapace begins form concurrently...

Abstract Large predators have disproportionate effects on their underlying food webs. Thus, appropriately assigning trophic positions has important conservation implications both for the themselves and prey. Large-bodied are often referred to as apex predators, implying that they many levels above primary producers. However, theoretical considerations predict higher lower position with increasing body size. Nitrogen stable isotope values ( δ 15 N) increasingly replacing stomach contents or...
