The reactions of sulfur dioxide (SO2) with surface-bound compounds on atmospheric aerosols lead to the formation organic (OS) compounds, thereby affecting air quality and climate. Here, we show that heterogeneous reaction SO2 authentic urban grime under near-ultraviolet sunlight irradiation leads a large suite various including OS released in gas phase. Calculations indicate at core area Guangzhou, building surface uptake is 15 times larger than aerosol surfaces, yielding ~20 ng m-3...
The primarily emitted compounds by human presence, e.g., skin and volatile organic (VOCs) in breath, can react with typical indoor air oxidants, ozone (O3), hydroxyl radicals (OH), leading to secondary compounds. Nevertheless, our understanding about the formation processes of through reactions oxidants primary pollutants is still incomplete. In this study we performed real-time measurements nitrous acid (HONO), nitrogen oxides (NOx = NO + NO2), O3, VOCs investigate contribution presence...
Nitrogen (N)-containing organic compounds, including "brown carbon" (BrC), represent an important fraction of aerosols. However, little is known about the processes formation secondarily formed N-containing organics in atmosphere. Here, we investigated gas-phase organics, through interfacial oxidation chemistry gaseous O3 with authentic riverine surface microlayer (SML) by using a high-resolution quadrupole Orbitrap mass spectrometer coupled to commercial secondary electrospray ionization...
Abstract Humic‐like substances (HULIS) are a ubiquitous reactive component of atmospheric aerosol. They participate in the formation secondary organic aerosols via chemical reactions with oxidants. Here, we assess influence transition metal ions (namely ferric iron, Fe(III)), and nitrate () on heterogeneous reaction gaseous NO 2 an aqueous film containing gallic acid (GA) or tannic (TA) as proxies for HULIS. Using vertical wetted wall flow tube technique, uptake coefficients GA TA increased...
Abstract A photocatalyst‐free cascade reaction of N ‐alkyl‐ ‐arylmethacrylamides with monoalkyl cesium oxalate salts is described. In the presence visible light and (NH 4 ) 2 S O 8 , undergo single‐electron oxidation/CO extrusion to generate alkyl radicals, followed by addition subsequent cyclization give alkylated oxindoles. addition, ‐methacryloylbenzamides could be applied for reaction, providing a series isoquinolinediones, which are completely different from products obtained oxalates...
The chemistry of ozone (O
Abstract Ozone (O 3 ) is an important trace gas and oxidant in the atmosphere which sources sinks are not well understood. In this study we measured uptake coefficients of O (100 ppb) on authentic riverine surface microlayers (SML) collected three different places Pearl River Guangzhou by a vertical wetted wall flow tube reactor enables to estimate deposition velocity fresh water surface. The product compounds formed upon interfacial reactions with SML have been investigated Fourier...
Abstract A photocatalytic reaction of N‐alkyl‐N‐methacryloylbenzamides with monoalkyl oxalates is described. Monoalkyl undergo single‐electron oxidation/CO 2 extrusion to generate alkoxycarbonyl radicals, followed by the addition and subsequent cyclization give substituted isoquinolinediones. wide variety were amenable in this protocol, affording various
AbstractDissolved organic nitrogen (DON) is an important issue in drinking water field. This paper deals with DON removal by activated carbon (AC) batch and fixed bed operation. Adsorption kinetics equilibrium isotherms operation are investigated while the breakthrough curves for adsorption at different conditions obtained. The isotherm results show that peach most suitable type which shows higher capacity than other ACs. Kinetic data of well fitted pseudo-second-order kinetic model,...
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and hydroxyl radical (OH) are important oxidants in the atmospheric aqueous phase such as cloud droplets deliquescent aerosol particles, playing a significant role chemical transformation of organic inorganic pollutants atmosphere. Atmospheric aqueous-phase chemistry has been considered to be source H2O2 OH. However, our understanding mechanisms their formation waters is still incomplete. Here, we show that reaction dissolved ozone (O3) with substituted phenols...
Abstract Under metal free condition, an efficient and mild cascade reaction of N ‐arylacrylamides with hydrazinecarboxamides is disclosed. Catalyzed by Rose Bengal, it undergoes oxidative dehydrazination, radical addition, subsequent 5‐exo‐trig cyclization in the presence visible light. A series 2‐(oxindol‐3‐yl)acetamides are obtained moderate to excellent yields, which could be utilized as precursors synthesis bioactive pyrrolidinoindolines.
Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants are persistent organic pollutants that ubiquitous in both indoor and outdoor environments exhibit adverse health effects. Among all of the PBDEs, decabromodiphenyl (BDE-209) is most abundant due to increased production electronic devices. Here we evaluate uptake coefficients ozone (O3) on glass plates coated with BDE-209 at different relative humidities (RH) over a range temperatures. The O3 slightly increase RH from 1.2 × 10–5 30% 2.2...
Cleaning agents are a source of numerous volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which highly reactive towards ozone leading to the formation secondary aerosols (SOA) in indoor environments. Here...
Abstract Surface microlayer at freshwater (rivers, lakes, ponds, streams, and groundwater) seawater is abundant with organic compounds compared to subsurface water. These organics adsorbed the air‐water interface can interact atmospheric oxidants influence exchange of materials between water atmosphere. Here, we assess chemical interaction gaseous NO 2 authentic surface microlayers collected lake (Dianchi Lake) situated in China. The formation gas‐phase product was evaluated real time using...
