The integration of palliative care into routine oncology practice is the standard by most leading cancer organizations. Palliative medicine helps to deliver higher quality at a lower cost. However, there are barriers implementing many institutions for myriad reasons. In this article, we discuss an innovative strategy that ASCO implemented called Communities Practice (CoP). We share our experiences as Care CoP and how group seeks develop processes structures collectively promote systemic...
Open design formats for mobile apps help clinicians and stakeholders bring their needs to direct, co-creative solutions. Palliative care patients with advanced cancers requires intensive monitoring support remains an area in high need innovation. This study aims use community-partnered participatory research co-design pretest a app that focuses on palliative priorities of cancer.In-person teleconference workshops were held patient family stakeholders, researchers, oncology. Question prompts,...
Colorectal Cancer currently stands as the third leading cause of cancer incidence and mortality in United States. Screening methods for early detection treatment offer an important tool to reduce burden population. Although use screening CRC have effectively reduced morbidity this disease over recent decades, significant disparities modalities persist fact widened among certain vulnerable groups. Specifically, African Americans still experience disproportionate rates late-stage diagnosis,...
A 55-year-old woman with a moderately differentiated cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) of the upper lip experienced initial tumour growth and new lymphadenopathy after starting immunotherapy Cemiplimab, but achieved complete remission no adverse events five infusions. This case underscores potential for cSCC in sensitive head neck areas illustrates phenomenon pseudoprogression, where apparent can occur before clinical improvement.
9008 Background: Of patients with cancer, 46% experience significant psychosocial distress, a factor linked to higher morbidity, mortality and costs of care. Oncologists themselves face particularly during their fellowship training, as many 38% hematology/oncology (H/O) fellows reporting burnout training. The ACGME recognizes this risk has recently included well-being skills in professional milestones, addition milestones for assessing issues communication addressing these complex patient...
e21501 Background: Programmed death-1 (PD-1) receptor inhibitors significantly increase survival rates for advanced melanoma, yet first-line PD-1 inhibitor therapy shows limited overall response (32.6%) and progression-free (4.6 months). Relatimab (RELA) was recently approved the treatment of metastatic unresectable stage III to IV melanoma in combination with nivolumab (NIVO). RELATIVITY-047 showed an ORR 43% as a while RELATIVITY 020 9-12% patients progressed on anti-PD-1 therapy. Although...
Medical ethics education is crucial for medical students and trainees, helping to shape attitudes, beliefs, values, professional identities. Exploration of ethical dilemmas approaches resolving them provides a broader understanding the social cultural contexts in which medicine practiced, as well implications decisions, fostering critical thinking self-reflection skills imperative providing patient-centered care. However, exposure topics their clinical applications can be limited by...
Systemic lupus erythematosus may present with several distinct autoimmune phenomena simultaneously. We report a patient presenting three serious hematologic disorders: thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome, and warm-type IgG red cell autoantibodies. The case is an example of the complex clinical nature importance accurately identifying individual complications in order to optimize management.
e21559 Background: Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) has emerged as a biomarker to monitor disease status in cancer patients. Limited data exists on the sensitivity of ctDNA for detection satellite/in-transit or nodal metastases melanoma. Methods: We conducted retrospective study stage III cutaneous melanomas with clinically detected and/or lymph node who underwent analysis using an mPCR-NGS-based assay ("Signatera") prior surgery systemic therapy at Inova Schar Cancer Institute. Results: was 4...
e21533 Background: Nivolumab and relatlimab-rmbw (R/N) combination demonstrated superior efficacy to nivolumab alone in patients with previously untreated metastatic or unresectable melanoma. Sparse data exists on the of this melanoma that relapsed after,or was resistant treatment PD-1 inhibitors. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study whose disease recurred progressed on/after prior inhibitor who received R/N at Inova Schar Cancer Institute. Efficacy endpoint objective response using...
Background: The most common risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are hepatitis B (HBV) and C (HCV). Patients with HCV related HCC have biology outcomes distinct from HBV HCC. We evaluated whether there is a difference in time diagnosis to treatment between patients HCV. Methods: conducted retrospective chart review identify confirmed HCC, known of either or at Bellevue Hospital Center January 2005 December 2009. Medical records were reviewed disease characteristics. Results:...
