Gamma spectra were measured and activities of the detected isotopes analyzed for 206 high-activity particles (hot particles, HPs) found in northeastern Poland after Chernobyl accident. The isotopic composition HPs observed gamma-activity is compared with that general fallout core inventory calculations. Particle formation a process depletion Ru Cs are discussed. On basis search performed year later, some comments on behavior soil made.

Details of excitation and ionization acts hide a description the biological effects charged particle traversal through living tissue. Nanodosimetry enables introduction novel quantities that characterize quantify track structure while also serving as foundation for assessing based on this quantification. This presents an opportunity to enhance planning radiotherapy by taking into account detail. work uses Monte Carlo simulations with Geant4-DNA code wide variety particles their radiation...

In view of the upcoming radiation therapy with carbon ions, ionisation structure ion track at nanometre scale is particular interest. Two different nanodosimeters capable measuring ionising particles in a gas target equivalent to nanometric site condensed matter were involved presented experimental investigation, namely NCBJ Jet Counter and PTB Ion Counter. At accelerator facility HIL Warsaw, simulated volumes irradiated ions 45 76 MeV kinetic energy, corresponding range tissue ∼85 µm ∼190...

Abstract Introduction: Proton radiotherapy offers an advantage in sparing healthy tissue compared to photon therapy due the specific interaction of protons with patient’s body. In radiobiological experiments, alpha sources are commonly used instead proton accelerators for convenience, but ensuring a uniform dose distribution is challenging. Properly designing cell irradiation setup crucial reliably measure average cellular response such experiments. The objective this research underscore...

For certain combinations of protons and neutrons, there is a theoretical expectation that the shape nuclei can assume octupole deformation, which would give rise to reflection asymmetry or "pear shape" in intrinsic frame, either dynamically (octupole vibrations) statically (permanent deformation). In this paper, I will briefly review historic evidence for nuclei, describe how recent experiments carried out at REX-ISOLDE are constraining nuclear theory they contribute tests extensions Standard...
