In this paper we elaborate on recently developed molecular switch architectures and how these new systems can help with the realization of functions advancement artificial machines. Progress in chemically photoinduced switches motors is summarized contextualized such that reader may gain an appreciation for novel tools have come about past decade. Many offer distinct advantages over commonly employed switches, including improved fidelity, addressability, robustness. Thus, serves as a...

The glass transition temperature (Tg) of a series polyacrylate- and polymethacrylate-based polymers having bistable hydrazone photoswitches as pendants increases upon photoisomerization. ensuing photohardening the polymeric network was corroborated using nanoindentation measurements. bistability switch allowed us to lock-in sustain multiple Tg values in same material function switch's Z/E isomer ratio, even at elevated temperatures.

We present a strategy for tuning physical properties of P3HT-based copolymers by incorporating fluorinated thiophene repeat unit. The synthesis and characterization series polythiophene P(3HT-co-3H4FT) materials are described, where the percentage units in polymer backbone is systematically varied from 0 to 100%. These P(3HT-co-3H4FT)s (P0, P25, P50, P75, P100) were synthesized via direct arylation polymerization (DArP) methods. By varying feed ratio two monomers, percent (3H4FT) could be...

We present the synthesis and characterization of poly(2-alkyl-benzimidazole-alt-9,9-dihexylfluorene). An improved microwave-assisted monomers 4,7-dibromo-2-heptyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazole 4,7-dibromo-2-(heptan-3-yl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazole was developed. The were polymerized with 9,9-dihexylfluorene-2,7-diboronic acid bis(1,3-propanediol) ester using Suzuki cross-coupling to yield corresponding poly(2-alkyl-benzimidazole-alt-9,9-dihexylfluorene)s. polymers characterized by both traditional optical...

We describe the synthesis and characterization of three new alternating copolymers containing fluorene a dually dopable benzimidazole moiety. Poly(2-n-heptyl-benzimidazole-alt-9,9-di-n-octylfluorene) (PBIF), poly(2-n-heptyl-benzimidazole-vinylene-9,9-di-n-octylfluorene) (PBIF-VL), poly(2-n-heptyl-benzimidazole-ethynylene-9,9-di-n-octylfluorene) (PBIF-EL) were synthesized from Suzuki, Heck, Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions in reasonable yield. The materials characterized through...

We have developed a very low noise preamplifier that meets the low-cost, high-density requirements for use with superconducting tunnel junction (STJ) arrays. The design allows STJs' bias points to be digitally set at μV level. then trace out versus curves under computer control and, by showing correlation between this and detector energy resolution, establish ability automatically select optimum STJ operating points. Working 75 μm × Ta x-ray absorber, we achieved better than 7 eV FWHM 525...

The BeEST experiment is a precision laboratory search for physics beyond the standard model that measures electron capture decay of $^7$Be implanted into superconducting tunnel junction (STJ) detectors. For Phase-III experiment, we constructed continuously sampling data acquisition system to extract pulse shape and timing information from 16 STJ pixels offline. Four additional are read out with fast list-mode digitizer, one nuclear MCA already used in earlier limit-setting phases experiment....
