Background: Bowen disease and bowenoid actinic keratosis are difficult to distinguish due overlapping histopathology. This study evaluates the role of p16, p53, MIB-1 staining patterns in differentiating high-chronic sun damage (H-CSD) low-chronic lesions. Methods: Sixty extragenital situ squamous cell carcinomas were included. Lesions with elastosis considered H-CSD. P16, classified as block, gradient, or focal. Results: Seventy-two percent lesions Full-thickness dysplasia was observed all...
Abstract Background While skin cancer awareness programs have significantly furthered public understanding about the harmful effects of sun, there is a disparity between photoprotection knowledge and protection practices. Objective To compare sun exposure habits measures in patients diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous (SCC), melanoma versus controls. Methods Multicentre case–control observational study carried out by 13 Spanish dermatologists April 2020 August 2022. Patients...
While ultraviolet radiation (UVR) present in sunlight is recognized as the main etiological agent of skin cancer, most frequent form which basal cell carcinoma (BCC), other exposome factors like pollution, diet, and lifestyle may also contribute. This study aimed to investigate association BCC exposome-related Spanish population.
The COVID-19 lockdown possibly meant a delay in the diagnosis and treatment of melanoma therefore, worsening its prognosis. This unique situation deferral is an exceptional opportunity to investigate biology. To evaluate immediate mid-term impact on melanoma.A retrospective observational study diagnosed between March 14th 2019 13th 2021. We compared characteristics melanomas during first 6-month period after instauration second recovery normal activity with same periods previous year,...
The reconstruction of full-thickness scalp defects with exposed bone can be challenging. A single-stage could the preferred option for patients multiple comorbidities. We propose using a dermal regeneration template (Matriderm Flex) and skin grafts. approach shown in this case report allows quick healing, less donor-site discomfort comparison dermatome-harvested grafts, very good aesthetic results, matching surrounding thickness.
Cutaneous alternariosis is a rare condition, more frequently presented in immunocompromised patients, which usually requires long courses of systemic antifungals that may interact with other medications. The series shows three cases cutaneous patients and organ transplant recipients were successfully treated photodynamic therapy oral antifungals, allowing reduction the treatment duration therefore decreasing risk side effects drug interactions.
Abstract Background Breslow density (BD) is an estimation of melanoma volume, which has emerged as a novel histopathological prognostic biomarker. Objectives To evaluate the role BD predictor patients’ survival and assess its value in relation to overall (OS), disease-free (DFS), melanoma-specific (MSS) metastasis-free (MFS). Methods A retrospective observational study cohort 107 patients with invasive was conducted. Kaplan–Meier Log-rank tests were used for 10-year analysis. The ability...
The concept of exposome refers to the total harmful and beneficial environmental exposures that can help predict organism's biological responses over time. Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) from sun exposure has been recognized as main etiological agent skin cancer, squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is one most commonly associated with chronic exposure. However, in recent years, evidence suggests lifestyle, pollution, contaminants water food have an influence. To study relationship between SCC...
Abstract: Pulse granulomas are uncommon reactions to vegetable exogenous matter characterized by the presence of hyaline rings. Although they usually found in oral cavity or along gastrointestinal respiratory tracts, there a few cases described outside those regions. We present first case granulomatous reaction with rings skin after an accidental wound and suggest term pulse granuloma-like describe lesions that resemble but no connection tracts. Moreover, we provide graphic comparison...
Reconstruction of surgical defects after wide local excision acral melanoma on the sole should allow patients to walk and bear weight. Moreover, certain options such as transposition flaps can compromise follow-up. We present a case series weight-bearing areas reconstructed using synthetic dermal matrix split-thickness skin graft. This approach prevents surrounding tissue displacement results in good functional outcomes assessed by baropodometry computer-based podoscopy.
Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is a vascular tumour associated with human herpesvirus-8 infection, benign course in most cases. Local or minimally invasive treatments have been suggested for localized KS, including cryotherapy, electrosurgery topical drugs, among others. However, relapse frequent, and certain therapies might not be convenient locations such as glans penis. Herein, we present case of primary KS the penis an immunocompetent man successfully treated oral propranolol, total response.
Different adverse reactions to silicone present in cosmetic fillers, implants, or medical devices have been reported. The granulomatous reaction on the injection site due catheters' coating is an infrequent complication, which may be clinically difficult suspect. Although definitive diagnosis requires identification of with techniques such as X-ray spectroscopy, possibility involvement silicone, well histopathologic demonstration granulomas refractile, nonpolarizable, and nonstainable...
