To assess the influence of a specific dietary pattern on overall survival.Cohort study.Three rural Greek villages, data from which were collected as part an international cross cultural study food habits in later life.182 elderly residents three villages.Overall mortality.Diet was assessed with validated extensive semiquantitative questionnaire intake. A one unit increase diet score, devised priori basis eight component characteristics traditional common Mediterranean region, associated...
To translate the Perceived Stress Scale (versions PSS-4, -10 and -14) to assess its psychometric properties in a sample of general Greek population.941 individuals completed anonymously questionnaires comprising PSS, Depression Anxiety scale (DASS-21 version), list stress-related symptoms. Psychometric PSS were investigated by confirmatory factor analysis (construct validity), Cronbach's alpha (reliability), investigating relations with DASS-21 scores number symptoms, across individuals'...
Background: Experimental animal studies suggest that olive oil consumption, as contrasted to consumption of other fat types, does not enhance the occurrence chemically induced mammary tumors, but human data are sparse. Furthermore, evidence is inconclusive concerning role food groups, distinct from major nutrients, in etiology breast cancer women. Purpose: This analysis was conducted evaluate and quantify effect oil, margarine, a range groups on risk cancer. Methods: Data comprehensive,...
We examined the role of vascular function and inflammation in development failure to heal diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). followed 104 patients for a period 18.4 ± 10.8 months. At beginning study, we evaluated reactivity serum inflammatory cytokines growth factors. DFUs developed 30 (29%) patients. DFU had more severe neuropathy, higher white blood cell count, lower endothelium-dependent -independent vasodilation macrocirculation. Complete ulcer healing was achieved 16 (53%) patients, whereas...
We investigated the association between inflammation, microvascular reactivity, and development of peripheral diabetic neuropathy.
A prospective cohort study, involving 141 Anglo-Celts and 189 Greek-Australians of both sexes aged 70 years or more, was undertaken in Melbourne, Australia. The objective to evaluate whether adherence the principles Mediterranean diet affects survival elderly people developed non-Mediterranean countries. Diet assessed using an extensive validated questionnaire on food intake. one unit increase a score, devised priori basis eight key features traditional common region, associated with 17 %...
We evaluated the reproducibility and validity of a 190-item semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) to be used in large prospective study Athens area Greece. Eighty persons, 42 men 38 women, ages 25-67 years, completed self-administered FFQ, followed by monthly 24-hour diet recalls then second FFQ 1 year after first. Correlation coefficients measuring indicate that is reproducible provides reasonably reliable measure intake for many nutrients over period year.
The extensive use of logistic regression models in analytical epidemiology as well randomized clinical trials, often creates inflated estimates the relative risk (RR). Particularly, cases where a binary outcome has high or moderate incidence studied population (>10%), bias assessing may be very high. Meta-analysis studies have estimated that about 40% prospective investigations, through models, lead to parameters. problem inflation also appears cross-sectional with outcomes, parameter...
Nomophobia is a relatively new term describing someone’s fear, discomfort, or anxiety when his/her smartphone not available. It reported that low self-esteem may contribute to an individual’s tendency for nomophobia. The aim of this particular study was investigate the association between nomophobia and among Greek university students. sample consisted 1060 male female students aged 18 25 years, participating on voluntary basis with online anonymous questionnaire. Data were collected through...
Nomophobia is characterized as apprehension of being apart from smartphone, which causes the user to seek proximity with device. The purpose this study was explore prevalence and factors associated nomophobia among young adults in Athens, capital city Greece. A cross-sectional performed on a sample 1408 aged 18–25 years. questionnaire anonymous, including socio-demographic characteristics participants, smartphone uses, questions. Statistical analyses were done by simple univariable...
Excessive smartphone use and dependence on social media give rise to multiple issues that negatively affect the overall well-being of individuals. Nomophobia is characterized as a "digital disease" due unlimited devices. The aim this study examine involvement in association with nomophobia psychological traits (i.e., depression, anxiety, stress, self-esteem) young adults. A cross-sectional investigation was conducted 1408 Greek undergraduate students aged 18 25 years, using an anonymous...
BackgroundTo evaluate changes in endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) and cytokines patients with diabetic foot ulceration (DFU) association wound healing. MethodsWe studied healthy subjects, not at risk of DFU, DFU active DFU. We prospectively followed the over a 12-week period. also investigated similar rabbit mouse models ResultsAll EPC phenotypes except kinase insert domain receptor (KDR)+CD133+ were reduced groups compared to controls. There no major differences between control group,...
Self-rated health (SRH) is a measure related to future health, mortality, healthcare services utilization and quality of life. Various sociodemographic, lifestyle determinants SRH have been identified in different populations. The aim this study extend literature the Greek population. This cross-sectional conducted rural communities between 2001 2003. Interviews eliciting basic demographic, health-related information (smoking, physical activity, diet, sleep religiosity) were conducted....

Religiosity was assessed as composite score praying church attendance. Cox proportional hazard models were used to calculate adjusted ratios...
We examined the influences of obesity and diabetes on endothelium-dependent -independent vasodilation, inflammatory cytokines, growth factors. included 258 subjects, age 21-80 years in four groups matched for gender: 40 healthy nonobese (BMI <30 kg·m(-2)) nondiabetic 76 diabetic patients, 37 obese >30) 105 patients. The flow-mediated dilation (FMD, endothelium-dependent) nitroglycerin-induced (NID, endothelium-independent) brachial artery, vascular reactivity at forearm skin serum factors...
Nomophobia is defined as the fears caused to individuals by lack of access or use their smartphone. The aim was make a cultural adaptation and validation Greek version Questionnaire (NMP-Q) well explore nomophobia's association with several sociodemographic determinants among university students. original NMP-Q translated from English into language using both backwards forwards processes. underlying factor structure questionnaire investigated through exploratory confirmatory analysis....
The empirical evidence concerning the quantitative relations between energy intake and expenditure on one hand body mass index (BMI) other is inconclusive. We have used a large database of 14,281 individuals, for whom habitual dietary been ascertained with adequate methodology, to examine mutually adjusted associations these variables BMI. Study subjects were adult participants in Greek component European Prospective Investigation into Cancer Nutrition (EPIC) study. After adjustment age...
