Abstract The iron transport protein, transferrin, and the storage protein ferritin were examined immunohistochemically along with in a number of brain regions from normal aged humans. Two age groups examined: middle‐aged group (28–49 years), an older (60‐90 years). Transferrin, ferritin, are found throughout all examined, predominantly perikaryal cytoplasm cells that small round, fitting description oligodendrocytes. These present optic nerve both gray white matter cerebral cortex,...

Abstract Immunohistochemical and histochemical staining were performed on Alzheimer's diseased brain tissue obtained at autopsy. The iron‐regulatory proteins transferrin ferritin as well iron are, in general, found predominantly oligodendrocytes similar to that previously reported for normal tissue. However, the vicinity of senile plaques, pattern is altered both iron. Transferrin homogenously distributed around plaques apparently extracellular. In addition, astrocytes cerebral cortical...

Abstract The influence of ethyl alcohol in concentrations ranging from 4 to 24%, on the perceived taste intensities sucrose, citric acid, quinine, and sodium chloride was determined by 24 subjects. A paired comparison method used which subjects selected sample with greater intensity (sweetness, sourness, bitterness or saltiness) as well rating a 13‐point scale. generally enhanced sweetness results varying slightly according subjects' task. sourness saltiness at all but lowest concentration,...

Parotid salivary flow increased with increasing concentrations of ethyl alcohol (4.8 to 47.5%), greater secretion at solution temperatures 1.5 C than 22 C. Subjects salivated significantly less when vision was eliminated by black goggles and more in response 0.15% citric acid 20% alcohol, whereas the combination elicited responses similar those from alone. Alcohol had a sialagogic effect wine water.

Introduction. The usual definition of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli hemolytic uremic syndrome (STEC-HUS) is based on the presence anemia, thrombocytopenia, and elevated serum creatinine levels, with or without proteinuria and/or hematuria. The strict only considers levels as a renal criterion. The extended maintains flexible criteria, although it replaces anemia hemolysis sharp drop in platelet count an indicator consumption. The objective this study was to estimate compare diagnostic...

Strict guidelines on use of dialysis in children with post-diarrheal hemolytic uremic syndrome (D + HUS) are lacking. This study investigated laboratory predictors acute because they more objective than clinical features. Added to this, given that urine output is also an parameter, its ability predict requirements was investigated.Out 153 D HUS reviewed, 88 received and 65 did not. Initial parameters diuresis between both groups were analyzed.Dialyzed patients had higher creatinine, urea,...

Idiopathic hypercalciuria (IH) predisposes to urinary tract infections (UTIs); however, there is scarce local information regarding such association. Our objectives were estimate IH prevalence in children with UTI and assess whether differences relation the presence or absence of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). Additionally, association between salt intake was studied.Calciuria determined patients younger than 18 years old on whom had been studied (ultrasound voiding cystourethrogram), who no...

Acute kidney injury is a common complication associated with an increase in mortality children who require intensive care. The objective of this study was to determine the incidence acute and identify risk factors for critically ill patients hospitalized our facility. This prospective observational conducted at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Hospital Pedro de Elizalde between 2005 2009. All were included, those chronic renal failure, prerenal injury, hepatorenal syndrome, newborn infants,...

Abstract Recurrent copy-number variations (CNVs) at chromosome 16p11.2 are associated with neurodevelopmental diseases, skeletal system abnormalities, anemia, and genitourinary defects. Among the 40 protein-coding genes encompassed within rearrangement, some have roles in leukocyte biology immunodeficiency, like SPN CORO1A . We therefore investigated differential counts disease CNV carriers. In our clinically-recruited cohort, we identified three deletion carriers from two families (out of...

Sequential immunocytochemical double labeling of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and transferrin (Tf) was used for the simultaneous identification astrocytes oligodendrocytes in paraffin-embedded sections rat brain. Paraformaldehyde or formalin-alcohol-acetic acid fixation followed by protease treatment provided most satisfactory double-labeling. The results demonstrated GFAP-positive Tf-positive as two subpopulations glia with no overlap. Our suggest that, some exceptions, GFAP Tf...

This study aimed to evaluate practice patterns during prodromal phase of hemolytic uremic syndrome related Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC-HUS).Trajectories children from first symptoms until STEC-HUS admitted consecutively at our center (period 2000-2017) were retrospectively reviewed. Early recommended practices include identification STEC infections, antibiotics and antiperistaltic avoidance, administration anticipatory intravenous fluids; therefore, implementation changes...

Nephromegaly in infancy may be due to several causes, being the most relevant: renal polycystic autosomic recessive disease, venous thrombosis, deposit diseases, kidney tumors, nephrotic congenital syndrome and neoplastic infiltration. Although infiltration is relatively frequent acute lymphoblastic leukemia, nephromegaly an unusual form of presentation this pathology. The case a four-year-old patient, who presents bilateral pancytopenia, presented. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia diagnosed,...
