Abstract Effective long-term management is needed to address the impacts of invasive alien species (IAS) that cannot be eradicated. We describe fundamental characteristics policies for IAS, diagnose a major shortcoming, and outline how produce effective IAS management. Key international transnational conflate addressing with controlling populations. This serious purpose–implementation gap can preclude development broader portfolios interventions tackle impacts. posit strategies should...
Formulating effective management plans for addressing the impacts of invasive non-native species (INNS) requires definition clear priorities and tangible targets, recognition plurality societal values assigned to these species. These tasks require a multi-disciplinary approach involvement stakeholders. Here, we describe procedures integrate multiple sources information formulate priorities, high-level actions INNS. We follow five good-practice criteria: justified, evidence-informed,...
Invasive Alien Species (IAS) threaten biodiversity, ecosystem functions and services, modify landscapes impose costs to national economies. Management efforts are underway globally reduce these impacts, but little attention has been paid optimising the use of scarce available resources when IAS impossible eradicate, therefore population reduction containment their advance only feasible solutions. CONTAIN, a three-year multinational project involving partners from Argentina, Brazil, Chile UK,...
Effective long-term management of invasive non-native species (INNS) in South America is a pressing yet complex task. Critically, the environmental, historical, cultural, and economic idiosyncrasies region call for inclusion plurality views from those sectors society receiving negative positive impacts INNS. This multifaceted, often daunting, task that can be aided by an early identification stakeholders – affected or with interest INNS their accompanied targeted stakeholder engagement....

Cryptosporidium is an intracellular parasite that belongs to the phylum Protozoa and subphylum Apicomplexa (Sporozoa). It was first described by from digestive tract of laboratory mice (Garcia 2001), has been found in several animal groups including fishes, reptiles, birds mammals, humans (Jellison et al . 2002).
Cryptosporidium is considered to be one of the indicators environmental contamination and water quality (Garcia 2001, Fayer 2004, Ramirez & Sreevatsan 2006). At present time presence this parasite has been recorded on all continents, including Antarctica (Fredes et al. 2007a).
The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection, has become the most devastating zoonotic event in recent times, with negative impacts on both human and animal welfare as well global economy. Although is considered a virus, it likely emerged from animals, can infect domestic wild animals. This constitutes risk for health including wildlife evidence of horizontal transmission back forth between humans Molecular surveillance different rehabilitation centers associated institutions Chile,...
Summary The goal of the present survey was to improve scarce knowledge regard endoparasites raptors in Chile and South America. Thus, necropsy performed on 14 chimango caracara Milvago temucoensis from Los Ríos Region, Chile. From all examined birds, 78.6% were positive helminths. species identified Capillaria tenuissima, Pterothominx sp., Baruscapillaria falconis, Cosmocephalus obvelatus, Skrjabinoclava Synhimantus (Dispharynx) nasuta, ( D .) (Synhimantus) Paracuaria adunca, Procyrnea...
One hundred and sixty seven fecal samples three complete digestive tracts obtained from these penguins were analyzed using different parasitological methodologies. The presence of Tetrabothrius spp.eggs (Cestoda: Pseudophyllida), the observation Sporozoa oocists Nematoda eggs both undetermined species in is reported. In same way a large number nematodes identified as Streptocara spp.(Nematoda: Acuariidae) evolutionary stages stomach, recovery whole 81 cm.Tetrabothrius spp.specimen (without...
The aim of this study was to perform a molecular survey and characterize Bartonella spp. haemotropic Mycoplasma (haemoplasmas) in invasive American minks (Neovison vison) from Southern Chile. Additionally, we addressed risk factors for positivity both groups agents. Blood and/or tissue samples 246 were analysed by qPCR targeting the nuoG gene conventional (c)PCR 16S rRNA qPCR-positive submitted cPCR assays (ITS, ribC, gltA, rpoB, pap-31 ftsZ genes) phylogenetic inferences. Haemotropic...
ABSTRACTObjective. To determine the Cryptosporidium spp. infection frequency by using Ziehl-Neelsen and Auramine stains on samples obtained from diarrheic calves milking farms of Valdivia province. compare both diagnostic tests to geospatial distribution infections caused this protozoan. Materials methods. 221 fecal 24 province were studied. The processing analysis was done (ZN) (AU) staining techniques, results compared McNemar statistical test concordance level determined kappa index. A...
The aim of the present study was to assess performance routinely used diagnostic tests detect M. bovis infection in cattle populations with very low prevalence. A cross-sectional performed using 609 animals from 17 herds that were sampled for blood interferon, and tested caudal fold tuberculin test (CFT). It planned which showed CFT positive results sent slaughterhouse post mortem confirmation testing. However, not all considered initial sampling culled. Paired population proportions...
During 2005, several pentastomids were found on the lungs of a Chilean Long Tailed Snakes (Philodryas chamissonis) that kept under captivity national zoo.The identification this parasites determinates they Raillitiella sp.This is first report Raillietiella sp. reptiles in country.
Abstract Background Cryptosporidium is an apicomplexan zoonotic pathogen primary causing diarrhea in vertebrate hosts notably bovines and humans. Here, we characterized isolates by using the GP60 gene fragment of C. parvum to observe dynamics cryptosporidiosis transmission dairy calves from two distant biogeographical regions Chile (Metropolitan Los Rios Regions). We collected 72 fecal samples diarrheic screening parasite carried out microscopy acid-fast staining smear molecular...
