Clinical artificial intelligence (AI) applications are rapidly developing but existing medical school curricula provide limited teaching covering this area. Here we describe an AI training curriculum developed and delivered to Canadian undergraduates recommendations for future training.
Aims This study aims to investigate whether denoising diffusion probabilistic models (DDPMs) could generate realistic retinal images, and if they be used improve the performance of a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) ensemble for multiple disease classification, which was previously shown outperform human experts. Methods We trained DDPMs fundus images representing diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma or normal eyes. Eight board-certified ophthalmologists...
Background: Geopolitical conflicts and terrorism have profound effects at global market scenario in financial markets, uncertainties present the market, confidence of investors their diversified risk. Historically, dated 11 September, 2001 Russia-Ukraine war escalated, a day marked with unprecedented casualties consequences which illustrates complexed mixed play between various political interplay stability. Further, October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks on Israel lead to major geopolitical . This...
Augmented reality (AR) has proven to be a useful, exciting technology in several areas of healthcare. AR may especially enhance the operator's experience minimally invasive surgical applications by providing more intuitive and naturally immersive visualisation those procedures which heavily rely on three-dimensional (3D) imaging data. Benefits include improved operator ergonomics, reduced fatigue, simplified hand–eye coordination. Head-mounted displays hold great potential for enhancing...
To develop an algorithm to classify multiple retinal pathologies accurately and reliably from fundus photographs validate its performance against human experts.
The objective of the study was to find incidence hemolysis in samples transported through a pneumatic tube system (PTS) at different speeds. This prospective observational done three phases: "short distance and high speed (115 m 3 m/s)", "long (225 m/s)" slow 2 m/s)". Fifty-two, 215 45 serum pairs, respectively, were evaluated these phases. A set tubes sent by PTS while other hand-carried. Samples analyzed for supernatant hemoglobin (Hb), potassium (K+) lactate dehydrogenase (LD).Mean transit...
Contrastive Learning (CL) is a recent representation learning approach, which encourages inter-class separability and intra-class compactness in learned image representations. Since medical images often contain multiple semantic classes an image, using CL to learn representations of local features (as opposed global) important. In this work, we present novel semi-supervised 2D segmentation solution that applies on patches, instead full images. These patches are meaningfully constructed the...
Confidence-weighted structured phase symmetry (CSPS) is a state-of-the-art bone seg- mentation technique for ultrasound (US), which has been recently proposed automatic diagnosis developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). However, CSPS relies on complex image feature analysis computationally expensive, and in our preliminary tests we have found it to be sometimes inaccurate. We evaluate simpler alternative segmentation previously published, called Shadow Peak (SP), uses intensity perform fast...
Pelvic fractures often require fixation through iliosacral joint, typically guided by fluoroscopy using an untracked C-arm device. However, this involves ionizing radiation exposure and potentially inaccurate screw placement. We introduce the Navigated Orthopaedic Fixations Ultrasound System (NOFUSS), a radiation-free ultrasound (US)-based end-to-end system for providing real-time navigation (ISS) insertions.
Fractures of the sacroiliac joint often require treatment through internal fixation. This procedure is typically guided by use intraoperative fluoroscopy, using an untracked C-arm device. However, this involves ionizing radiation exposure and possibility screw malplacement. We introduce Navigated Orthopaedic Fixation Ultrasound System (NOFUSS): ultrasound (US) based end-to-end system for providing real-time navigation iliosacral (ISS) insertions. Our consists US imaging device optical...
In pelvic fracture surgeries, percutaneous screws must be placed accurately for effective fixation and to prevent damage surrounding tissue structures. Fluoroscopy is currently used image the pelvis provide guidance, but this produces harmful ionising radiation does not allow three-dimensional (3D) visualisation. Ultrasound offers three-dimensional, non-ionising, real-time, inexpensive imaging. It has thus emerged as an alternative fluoroscopy intraoperative imaging in computer-assisted...
Ultrasound (US) bone segmentation is a key component in many US-based computer assisted orthopaedic systems. Although numerous US segmentations techniques exist, there remains no direct way of comparing their performances. This primarily due to the lack an accessible image database, and secondly standard vali- dation practices. To address this issue, we are beginning multi-institutional international collaboration across multiple research centres with aim creating open database for...
Surgical navigation can be used for complex orthopaedic procedures, such as iliosacral screw fix- ations, to achieve accurate and efficient results [11]. Although there have been studies studying the impact of systems on surgical outcomes [6, 3], we are not aware any that quantified effect how information regarding scene is displayed surgeons conventional monitors. However, display a measurable both accuracy time required perform navigated surgery, presented in many different formats [9]....
