Genomic selection (GS) has changed cattle breeding, but its use so far been in selecting superior bulls for breeding. However, farm-level impact, particularly on female selection, remains less explored. This study aimed to investigate the impact of implementing GS identify cows and using artificial mating those with sex-selected semen a New Zealand Holstein-Friesian (HF) dairy herd (n = 1800 cows). Heifers 2061) born over four consecutive years between 2021 2024 were genotyped their genomic...

Myostatin is a regulator of myogenesis and has been implicated in the regulation adiposity controlling structure function tendons. Polymerase Chain Reaction Single-Stranded Conformational Polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) analysis intron-1 was used to identify five variants (designated A-E) myostatin gene (MSTN). The effect this genetic variation on growth carcass traits investigated 517 Romney male lambs from 17 sire-lines, born South Island New Zealand farm. General linear mixed models revealed that...

Keratin (K) is a major protein component of hair and involved in growth development. In this study, we analysed the expression, localization, polymorphism K84 gene (KRT84) Gansu Alpine Fine-wool sheep using immunofluorescence, RT-qPCR, PARMS (penta-primer amplification refractory mutation system). Haplotypes KRT84 were also constructed their relationship with wool traits analysed. It was revealed that highly expressed follicles, including inner root sheath, outer medulla at all six lamb ages...

Sheep’s wool is known to have unique biological, physical and chemical properties. The fibre primarily consists of proteins, but these amino acid sequence variation, at the phenotypic level varies considerably. This can affect its utility value. Unravelling genetic factors that underpin protein variability crucial if we are contemplate improving quality. Accordingly, this study investigates high glycine tyrosine content keratin-associated 19-5 gene (KRTAP19-5) in sheep. PCR-single strand...

Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) has been identified as an important in many biological systems.[1] It shares considerable structural homology with insulin and exerts insulin-like effects on food intake glucose metabolism. Recently it suggested to play a role regulating cellular proliferation migration during the development of hair follicles. [2,3] To exert its effects, IGF-1 is required activate cells by binding specific cell-surface receptors. The type I IGF receptor (IGF-1R) only...

Summary High glycine–tyrosine keratin‐associated proteins ( HGT ‐ KAP s) are predominantly present in the orthocortex of wool fibres. They vary abundance different wools and have been implicated regulating fibre properties, but little is known about functional roles these matrix. In this study, we used polymerase chain reaction – single‐strand conformational polymorphism PCR SSCP ) analysis to screen for variation a gene encoding ovine 6‐1 protein. We identified three variants A , B C )....

Keratin-associated proteins (KAPs) are structural components of wool and hair fibers. To date, eight high glycine/tyrosine KAP (HGT-KAP) families have been identified in humans, but only three sheep. In this study, the putative ovine homolog human KAP22-1 gene (KRTAP22-1) was amplified using primers designed based on a KRTAP22-1 sequence. Summary Variation in the nucleotide sequence of B2 high‐sulfur protein genes has not been reported previously. This paper reports 15 substitutions each for B2A and B2C proteins a length polymorphism gene which translates to insertion/deletion one 30‐nucleotide repeat sequence. Evidence is presented conversion occurring within multigene family. These DNA polymorphisms may account some microheterogeneity observed also be useful genetic markers loci future use analysing wool fibre characteristics.

The keratin-associated proteins (KAPs) are structural components of cashmere fibres. gene encoding the high-sulphur (HS)-KAP24-1 (KRTAP24-1) has been identified in humans and sheep, but it not described goats. In this study, we report identification caprine KRTAP24-1, describe variation gene, investigate effect on traits. A search for sequences orthologous to ovine goat genome revealed a 774 bp open reading frame chromosome 1, which could encode an HS-KAP. Based sequence comparison with...

Variation in the ovine DQA2 gene was investigated approximately 2,000 sheep from six breeds. Fragments of DNA containing exon 2 were amplified using PCR. Single-strand conformational polymorphism analysis and sequence employed to detect genetic variation. Twenty-three nucleic acid sequences, encoding 22 amino identified. This increases number alleles identified 10 23. In some cases, three or four unique sequences isolated individual sheep, suggesting that these may represent two loci....
