AA5182 (Al-4.5 wt% Mg) can become susceptible to intergranular corrosion (IGC) with time at moderately elevated service temperatures owing precipitation of Mg-rich β-phase grain boundaries, which lead stress cracking (SCC). The IGC and SCC susceptibility was found depend strongly on sensitisation heat treatments. AFM TEM studies demonstrated that the degree thus attack for a boundary be related its crystallographic misorientation. Low angle boundaries (<20°) are most resistant as they do...

Providing materials with smart functionalities such as self-healing properties is primarily a domain for organic materials, although their applicability restricted to mild environments and loads because of poor thermal mechanical properties. This work seeks achieve the active obtained in but ceramics, which are much more heat resistant robust. Ceramic coatings were produced by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO), an environmentally friendly technique that offers alternative potentially...

Synchrotron X-ray microtomography has been used to study the distribution of Y in aerospace magnesium alloy WE43 and its role morphology corrosion attack. A three-dimensional map was obtained by acquiring tomographic images above below K-edge at . Tomographic from a heavily corroded as-cast sample showed that Y-rich regions matrix slow propagation corrosion. In situ time-dependent heat-treated show homogenization decreases rate, but both general attack pitting is still observed.

Although clean energy generation utilizing the Oxygen Reduction Reaction (ORR) can be considered a promising strategy, this approach remains challenging by dependence on high loadings of noble metals, mainly Platinum (Pt). Therefore, efforts have been directed to develop new and efficient electrocatalysts that could decrease Pt content (e.g., nanotechnology tools or alloying) replace them completely in these systems. The present investigation shows catalytic activity reached towards ORR...

The susceptibility of aluminum alloy 7075 (AA7075 [UNS A97075]) to intergranular stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in the peak strength T6 temper is alleviated through use T73, or over-aged temper, which provides improved SCC resistance with a 10% 15% loss compared temper. Previous research has indicated that retrogression and re-aging (RRA) heat treatments reduce trade-off between T73 resistance. short-term treatment they used, however, limited applicability RRA thin sections material....

Navy radar operations are being curtailed in a littoral environment. This is due to two factors: the encroachment of cell phone systems into naval bands; in-band interference from other radars. The spectral width most pulsed radars significantly wider than necessary with present modulation schemes. Most utilize some form constant envelope pulse phase or frequency modulation. causes spectrum broaden several times information bandwidth. If both amplitude and transmitted signal allowed change,...

Abstract Direct-fired oxy-fuel supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) combustors present a novel approach for near-total capture. However, maintaining stable flame under extreme pressure and temperatures, characteristic of these combustors, poses significant challenges. Re-ignition failure could necessitate depressurization to atmospheric levels, leading substantial time energy losses. This study experimentally investigates laser ignition stabilization in simplified oxygen/methane-fired,...
