Sharks, rays, and chimaeras (hereafter ‘sharks’) face a high risk of extinction. Populations many species sharks rays have declined by over 70–90% in last few decades. Immediate action is required to halt population declines allow for recovery. Area-based measures are key biodiversity conservation but commonly do not focus on sharks, existing ones often fail provide them adequate protection. Target 3 the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework commits nations conserving 30% coastal...

We present nine new records one recent discovery obtained secondary sources. For some species, we also compiled extensions geographic distributions.

The smooth hammerhead (Sphyrna zygaena) is the third most captured shark species in Peru, a nation with one of largest fisheries Pacific Ocean. We sought to better understand trophic ecology this northern Peru by analyzing stomach contents. From 2013 through 2015, we collected 485 samples gut contents from sharks measuring 53-294 cm total length. Our results show that top predator diet dominated jumbo flying squid (Dosidicus gigas) and Patagonian (Doryteuthis (Amerigo) gahi). Smooth...

Abstract The identification of important areas (i.e., nursery grounds) is essential for the conservation most shark species. To assess whether Salas y Gómez Island serves as a area Galápagos Carcharhinus galapagensis , we conducted thorough literature review. Multiple lines evidence show that young‐of‐the‐year (YOY); inhabiting remote (1) present higher density around than surrounding deeper oceanic waters and in south‐eastern Pacific, (2) potentially display high fidelity to this area, (3)...

Abstract.- This study provides baseline information on the feeding habits of five batoid species from genera Mobula and Myliobatis sampled small-scale driftnet fishery in northern Peru. The diets mobular, munkiana thurstoni consisted mainly euphausiids. Dietary niche breadth indicated a pelagic behaviour specialist trophic level secondary predator for both M. mobular munkiana. In contrast, chilensis peruvianus consumed mostly gastropods crustaceans. benthic chilensis.

Killer whales (Orcinus orca) are widely distributed in all ocean basins, however, their occurrence, distribution, and ecology the southeast Pacific, including Peru, is poorly defined. This study aims to describe occurrence of killer Peruvian waters, with additional description predatory behaviors. Between 2003 2018 there were 29 reports waters which at least 110 individuals observed, pod sizes ranging between 1 15 individuals. Most sightings occurred within continental shelf or close...
