Segregation of the daily activity patterns is considered and important mechanism facilitating coexistance competing species. Here, we evaluated if temporal separation existed among jaguar (Panthera onca), puma (Puma concolor) ocelot (Leopardus pardalis) their were related to that a particular prey. We used camera trap records estimate schedules these predators coefficient overlapping (Δ; ranging from 0 1) quantify interactions between prey, calculated confidence intervals bootstrap samples....

Acoustic telemetry is a popular approach used to track many different aquatic animal taxa in marine and freshwater systems. However, information derived from focal studies typically resource‐ geography‐limited by the extent placement of acoustic receivers. Even so, animals tagged tracked one region or study may be detected unexpectedly at distant locations other researchers using compatible equipment, who ideally share that information. Synergies through national global tracking networks are...

An opportunistic sighting of a reef manta ray (Mobula alfredi) along the northeastern corner Cocos Island, Costa Rica, represents first this species nearly 6000 km from nearest confirmed location in Marquesas Islands and record on either side American continent. Island is situated approximately 500 away mainland Rica as well any other suitable habitat for species, suggesting sighted individual may have migrated to location. The was fitted with an acoustic transmitter (V16 Vemco Ltd., Nova...

Defining demographically independent units and understanding patterns of gene flow between them is essential for managing conserving exploited populations. The critically endangered scalloped hammerhead shark, Sphyrna lewini , a coastal semi-oceanic species found worldwide in tropical subtropical waters. Pregnant females give birth shallow estuarine habitats that serve as nursery grounds neonates small juveniles, whereas adults move offshore become highly migratory. We evaluated the...

Long-distance movements associated with environmental and ecological drivers are common in a wide array of mobile marine species. Understanding such is particularly important for management conservation threatened species, which may be exposed to anthropogenic threats throughout their range. Pacific nurse sharks (Ginglymostoma unami) endangered because interactions fisheries lack biological knowledge as recently described Little known about this species’ its broad distribution the tropical...

Bull shark (Carcharhinus leucas) is a near-threatened elasmobranch species capable of moving between the fresh and salty waters tropical subtropical coastal areas, for which we still lack important ecological information. During their first years life, bull sharks use estuarine systems as nursery making them highly susceptible to environmental anthropogenic pressures. We studied trophic ecology juveniles found in Coyote estuary, potential area Costa Rica, understand impact further declines...

Almost 25% of skates and rays’ information worldwide is insufficient to assess their extinction risk. We reported the first seven confirmed records rough eagle ray (Aetomylaeus asperrimus) along north Pacific coast Costa Rica. These findings suggest that encounters with this species are rare, possibly associated oceanographic patterns. More needed make accurate assumptions on species’ abundance, ecology, conservation needs.
