Abstract We present 888 visual-wavelength spectra of 122 nearby type II supernovae (SNe II) obtained between 1986 and 2009, ranging 3 363 days post-explosion. In this first paper, we outline our observations data reduction techniques, together with a characterization based on the spectral diversity SNe II. A statistical analysis matching technique is discussed as an alternative to nondetection constraints for estimating SN explosion epochs. The time evolution lines presented analyzed in...
ABSTRACT We present a compilation of UBVRIz light curves 51 type II supernovae discovered during the course four different surveys 1986–2003: Cerro Tololo Supernova Survey, Calán/Tololo Program (C&T), Optical and Infrared Survey (SOIRS), Carnegie Type (CATS). The photometry is based on template-subtracted images to eliminate any potential host galaxy contamination, calibrated from foreground stars. This work presents these photometric data, studies color evolution using bands, explores...
Abstract It is well known that reverberation mapping of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) reveals a relationship between AGN luminosity and the size broad-line region, use this relationship, combined with Doppler width broad emission line, enables an estimate mass black hole at center nucleus based on single spectrum. An unresolved key issue choice parameter used to characterize line width, either FWHM or dispersion <?CDATA ${\sigma }_{\mathrm{line}}$?> (the square root second moment profile)....
We present the optical spectroscopic follow-up of 31 z=0.3 Lyman-alpha (Lya) emitters, previously identified by Deharveng et al. (2008). find that 17% Lya emitters have line ratios require hard ionizing continuum produced an AGN. The uniform dust screen geometry traditionally used in studies similar to ours is not able simultaneously reproduce observed high Lya/Halpha and Halpha/Hbeta ratios. consider different possibilities for around emitting sources. also a mixture sources does Instead,...
The Fornax cluster provides a uniquely compact laboratory in which to study the detailed history of early-type galaxies and role played by environment driving their evolution transformation from late-type galaxies. Using superb capabilities Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer on Very Large Telescope, high-quality integral-field spectroscopic data were obtained for inner regions all bright ( m B ≤ 15) within virial radius Fornax. stellar haloes are also covered out about four effective radii....
We present the results of an optical spectroscopic monitoring program targeting NGC 5548 as part a larger multi-wavelength reverberation mapping campaign. The campaign spanned six months and achieved almost daily cadence with observations from five ground-based telescopes. H$\beta$ He II $\lambda$4686 broad emission-line light curves lag that 5100 $\AA$ continuum by $4.17^{+0.36}_{-0.36}$ days $0.79^{+0.35}_{-0.34}$ days, respectively. relative to 1158 ultraviolet curve measured Hubble Space...
The 31 brightest galaxies (m_B < 15 mag) inside the virial radius of Fornax cluster were observed from centres to outskirts with Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer on Very Large Telescope. These observations provide detailed high-resolution maps line-of-sight kinematics and line strengths stars ionised gas reaching 2-3 Re for 21 early-type 1-2 10 late-type galaxies. majority are regular rotators, eight hosting a kinematically distinct core. Only two slow rotators. mean age, total metallicity,...
Black hole masses are tightly correlated with the stellar velocity dispersions of bulges which surround them and slightly less well bulge luminosity. It is common to use these correlations estimate expected abundance massive black holes. This usually done by starting from an observed distribution or luminosities then changing variables. procedure neglects fact that there intrinsic scatter in mass-observable correlations. Accounting for this results estimates abundances larger almost order...
We present the results of VLT/VIMOS integral-field spectroscopic observations inner 28"x28" (3.1 kpc x 3.1 kpc) interacting spiral NGC 5719, which is known to host two co-spatial counter-rotating stellar discs. At each position in field view, observed galaxy spectrum decomposed into contributions spectra and one ionised-gas components. measure kinematics line strengths Lick indices model data component with single population models that account for alpha/Fe overabundance. also derive...
The formation scenario of extended counter-rotating stellar disks in galaxies is still debated. In this paper, we study the S0 galaxy IC 719 known to host two large-scale order investigate their mechanism. We exploit large field view and wavelength coverage Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) spectrograph derive two-dimensional (2D) maps various properties disks, such as age, metallicity, kinematics, spatial distribution, kinematical chemical ionized gas, dust map. Due range, particular...
The goal of this project is to construct an estimator for the masses supermassive black holes in active galactic nuclei (AGNs) based on broad Hα emission line. We made use published reverberation mapping data. remeasured all time lags from original data as we find that measurements are often improved by detrending light curves. produced mass estimators require only luminosity and width line characterized either full at half maximum or dispersion. It possible, basis a single spectrum covering...
We report the discovery of two counterrotating stellar disks in early-type spiral galaxy NGC 3593.
Ionized gas and stellar kinematics have been measured along the major axes of seventeen nearby spiral galaxies intermediate to late morphological type. We discuss properties each sample galaxy, distinguishing between those characterized by regular or peculiar kinematics. In most observed galaxies, ionized rotates more rapidly than stars has a lower velocity dispersion, as is be expected if confined in disc supported rotation while are mostly dynamical pressure. few objects, show almost same...
In order to investigate the correlation between circular velocity Vc and central dispersion of spheroidal component sigma_c, we analyzed these quantities for a sample 40 high surface brightness disc galaxies (hereafter HSB), 8 giant low spiral LSB), 24 elliptical characterized by flat rotation curves. We find that Vc-sigma_c relation is descri ed linear law out dispersions as sigma_c~50km/s, while in previous works power was adopted with sigma_c>80k/ms. Elliptical based on dynamical...

The data provide detailed information on structure mass profile stellar component, dust optical depth, spatial distribution kinematics ionized gas within innermost region each galaxy. Dynamical models, which account observed include contribution a central...
Based on the modeling of central emission-line width measured over sub-arcsecond apertures with Hubble Space Telescope, we present stringent upper bounds mass supermassive black hole, MBH, for a sample 105 nearby galaxies (D<100Mpc) spanning wide range types (E-Sc) and values stellar velocity dispersion, sigma (58-419km/s). For vast majority objects derived MBH limits run parallel above well-known MBH-sigma relation independently galaxy distance, suggesting that our nebular line-width...
