Rice (Oiyza sativa) is cultivated in 21 countries throughout North, South and Central America, the Caribbean. Waterbird landbird use of rice paddies Americas was evaluated. Information compiled on birds habitats from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Surinam, Trinidad Tobago, Uruguay, USA Venezuela. At least 169 waterbirds belonging to families 166 landbirds have been recorded region. Anatidae best represented family, followed by Scolopacidae, Rallidae Ardeidae; 67% species...
We present historic and contemporary information on the distribution abundance of Buff-breasted Sandpipers (Tryngites subruficollis) in South America. Historic was collated from literature, area ornithologists, museums, whereas data were derived surveys conducted throughout main wintering range Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil during austral summers 1999 2001. Variable circular plot sampling used to estimate population densities. During 1999, highest concentration Argentina southern Bahía...
Worldwide, shorebirds are a major component of rice field avian biodiversity. Rice fields in Argentina and southern Brazil hold large numbers have been recognized as important areas for migrating or wintering species. To develop successful shorebird conservation strategies, we need to understand geographic variation abundance well how bird use varies over the growing cycle. We surveyed November December main cultivation regions interior coastal estimate densities using distance sampling...
Low pathogenicity avian influenza virus (LPAIV) is endemic in wild birds and poultry Argentina, active surveillance has been place to prevent any eventual mutation into a highly pathogenic (HPAIV), which exotic this country. Risk mapping can contribute effectively disease control systems, but it proven very challenging task the absence of data. We used combination expert opinion elicitation, multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA) ecological niche modelling (ENM) identify most suitable areas...
A bacterial strain, designated RA6T, was isolated from the rhizosphere of Cistus ladanifer. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequence placed isolate into genus Delftia within a cluster encompassing type strains lacustris, tsuruhatensis, acidovorans and litopenaei, which presented greater than 97 % similarity with respect to strain RA6T. DNA-DNA hybridization studies showed average relatedness ranging 11 18 between these species Catalase oxidase were positive. Casein hydrolysed...
Se trata de la reseña escrita por Daniel Blanco del libro Gustavo Caponi, La segunda agenda darwiniana. Contribución preliminar a historia programa adaptacionista.
The coast of the Buenos Aires province, Argentina, includes a remarkable diversity habitats and is used by more than fifteen Nearctic shorebird species during austral summer months. We evaluated non-breeding distribution abundance patterns along coastal zone determined use different landscapes. Surveys were conducted in December 2000, January February 2001, using line-transect methods. data classified based on five previously defined Fifty four localities surveyed covering 93 kilometers...
Latin American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela) working under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Technical Cooperation Programme: TSA3 Radiological Protection of Patients in Medical Exposures have joined efforts optimisation radiation protection mammography practice. Through surveys patient doses, region has a unique database diagnostic reference levels for analogue digital...
The mainland population of the ruddy-headed goose (Chloephaga rubidiceps) breeds in southern Patagonia and winters south Buenos Aires province (Argentina), with a recent estimated size at around 900 individuals. This is considered "in danger extinction", while Malvinas (Falkland) Islands well conservation status, an 40,000 birds. The aim this work to contribute updated information about goose's wintering province. The specific objectives were better delimit its area, look for sites large...
Este trabajo constituye una primera aproximación (desde la perspectiva ofrecida por concepción estructuralista de las teorías científicas) a teoría del origen en común (TOC) tal como aparece On the Origin of Species, Charles Darwin.
This paper describes the diet of Red Knot (Calidris canutus) at Punta Rasa; southern extreme Ramsar Site Bahía Samborombón, in Buenos Aires province, Argentina. Data presented here are mostly based on fecal analysis. We also used gizzard content analyses four casualties that occurred during catching operations. Remains prey all droppings and consisted entirely shell fragments Mud Snail (Littoridina australis, Hydrobiidae: Mesogasteropoda). A total 295 were analyzed containing from which size...
