The Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare Administration (VHA) is supported by one the largest integrated health care information systems in United States. VHA's Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) was developed 2006 to accommodate massive amounts data being generated from more than 20 years use and streamline process knowledge discovery application. This article describes developments research associated with transition into world Big analytics through CDW utilization. majority studies...
The purpose of this article is to conduct a scoping review, which examines research evidence on therapeutic alliance development in adolescents while using telehealth during mental health encounters (telemental health). Thirty-seven percent all high school students the United States reported poor pandemic, and 44% sadness and/or hopelessness past year. Therapeutic collaborative relationship between patient provider with strong affective bond agreement treatment tasks goals. Telehealth may...
Many nurses around the world provide expert nursing care through distance technologies but few undergraduate programmes expose students to full range of available. Nursing education in telehealth needs reflect roles, responsibilities and capacity for knowledge building innovation various constituencies within profession. Registered advanced practice will need complementary different skills than nurse administrators. The former technical proficiency using common modalities ability integrate...
Abstract Purpose This article introduces a framework to (a) guide chronic illness self‐management interventions through the integration of and nursing informatics, (b) focus research, (c) promote ethical, patient‐empowering technology use by practicing nurses. Methods Existing theory research focusing on illness, self‐management, health‐enabling technology, informatics were reviewed examined key concepts identified. A care paradigm concordance, rather than compliance, served as overall...
ABSTRACT Background: Remote telemonitoring of patients’ vital signs is a rapidly increasing practice. Although methods communication in remote electronic monitoring differ from those traditional home health care, the understanding shared by nurse, patient, and family members remains same: self‐care behaviors affect exacerbations chronic conditions. The purpose this paper to examine relationship between information integration into daily lives patients with illnesses offer best practice...
The end of life (EOL) period represents a challenging time for patients with cancer as they face disruptions in their relationships oncology healthcare providers (HCPs) when moving toward hospice care. Poor communication and severed or altered physician-patient have been shown to occur near EOL, leading perceptions abandonment other negative consequences quality EOL Little is known, however, about nurse-patient the setting. The purpose this qualitative descriptive study was describe between...
Typically, patients develop trusting relationships with their nurses through a variety of face-to-face, often hands-on, interpersonal interactions that convey the nurse's ability, integrity, and benevolence. However, in telehome care, face-to-face interaction is limited, so must learn to use different strategies those professional characteristics promote patients' trust. This study explores nature trust way it develops, suggests can be used by care counter any barriers imposed technology.
As data volume explodes, nurse scientists grapple with ways to adapt the big movement without jeopardizing its epistemic values and theoretical focus that celebrate while acknowledging authority unity of body knowledge. In this article, authors describe emphasize nursing science brings value study. Collective voices call for more engagement in era are answered integrate domain expertise from into science.
Background Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a rare but deadly cancer. Although there an emerging picture of the individual MPM experience, United States underrepresented in this literature. With contributing more deaths from than any other country, findings study will enhance global body literature on lived experience devastating Objective The aims descriptive phenomenological research were to explore and identify unmet patient needs. Interventions/Methods This was phenomenology...
Nurses employed in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) are at risk for developing compassion fatigue. Compassion fatigue negatively impacts patient outcomes and is associated with decreased quality of care. Some nurses leave the profession due to There no published studies United States focused on among SNF nurses. The purpose this interpretive phenomenological study was identify shared meanings RNs caring residents SNFs. Shared participants were identified as: (1) I feel conflicted, which...
The Nursing Informatics Year in Review 2013 revealed an increase publications associated with nursing education. Specifically, the articles addressed technology curricula, use of to teach education, and form collaborative relationships. In this article we present questions such as: how do these programs assist student nurses transition nurse providers where is infused into their work workflow what influence relationships educators, administrators, informatics specialists patient safety quality.
AbstractDespite rapid adoption and implementation, theoretical research considerations for virtual care (VC), defined simply as healthcare delivered using technology, are lacking across psychiatric mental health nursing (PMHN) scholarship. By adapting Hildegard Peplau's Interpersonal Relations Theory (IRT) Media Richness (MRT) an intermodern emancipatory knowing approach, a new framework was created guiding modern PMHN VC research. Using this framework, readers can gain awareness of how the...
Health care today necessitates a group effort, in part, due to the availability of complex interventions. Often measures central tendency are used examine groups which can result misleading interpretations. Interactions within influence outcomes so multi-level approach examining individual and dyad contributions is helpful determine where interventions may be needed. The Social Relations Model (SRM) (CitationCook & Kenny, 2004) mathematical technique for estimating variances interaction...
Teaching online can be particularly challenging when there is a need to immerse students located anywhere in the world specific environmental contexts. We used Ecological Psychology Approach Instructional Design (EPAID) design four courses two concentration areas (Border Health, and Workforce Healthcare Delivery Environments). In each case, we sought provide with virtual first-hand understanding of contexts that they would not experience themselves. this paper, describe major tenets EPAID,...
Increasingly home health agencies are using home-based technologies to monitor vital signs of chronically ill patients. Patients receive measurements such as blood pressure and weight that indicate risks their health. Cognitive reactions risk measures have been studied for face-to-face delivery; however, it is unknown whether the same exist with technology delivery. Reported in this article study results a comparative content expert analysis technology-delivered health-risk measures. Results...
Family caregivers' experiences during within-hospital handoffs between acute care units are not well understood. Qualitative description methodology was employed to describe family their loved ones' handoffs. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 10 caregivers of hospitalized older adults. Three themes emerged: Lack coordination, Muddling through alone, and Wariness toward the delivery system. Findings can help clinicians shape interactions maximize involvement in post–hospital care.
Background Skin cancer is the most common cancer; survival of serious skin cancers and malignant melanomas depends on early detection. Early detection relies accessibility to clinical examination (CSE). Primary care nurse practitioners (PCNPs) are well-positioned conduct CSEs; however, they require further education CSE have time constraints for continuing education. A digitally delivered intervention grounded in microlearning a promising approach deliver new information over brief period....
