Barrett's oesophagus surveillance places significant burden on endoscopy services yet is vital to detect early cancerous change. Oesophageal cell collection device (OCCD) testing was introduced across Scotland for in response the COVID-19 pandemic. This national pragmatic retrospective study presents CytoSCOT programme results and evaluates whether OCCD successfully identifying high-risk patients requiring urgent endoscopy.

High quality Barrett's esophagus surveillance is crucial to detect early neoplastic changes. An esophageal cell collection device (OCCD) was introduced as a triage tool for surveillance. This study aims evaluate whether the Scottish OCCD program (CytoSCOT) has reduced delays surveillance, and delayed negatively impacts endoscopic pathology. All patients undergoing testing across 11 health boards between 14/9/2020 13/9/2022 were identified. Patients dichotomised into two groups (Year 1 vs....

Mechanical small bowel obstruction is an uncommon but important complication of cholelithiasis. Recurrent gallstone ileus has historically been considered a rare occurrence; however, the incidence likely to be underreported and condition carries high mortality rate.We present case in which 67 year old man suffered recurrence 10 days after his initial enterolithotomy, requiring further laparotomy. We review literature highlight potential clinical predictors as well benefits pitfalls management...

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas are poor prognostic cancers accounting for 3% of all cancer cases in the UK. They often present late course disease process with non-specific symptoms, including gastro-intestinal(GI) symptoms. Delays diagnosis occur when investigations carried out a primary care setting GI The aim this study was to assess delays pancreatic patients were referred and evaluate its effect on survival.Retrospective cohort diagnosed adenocarcinoma Scottish district general...

Background Barrett’s esophagus is strongly associated with esophageal adenocarcinoma. Considering costs and risks invasive surveillance endoscopies better methods of risk stratification are required to assist decision-making move toward more personalised tailoring surveillance. Methods A Bayesian network was created by synthesizing data from published studies analysing factors for developing adenocarcinoma in oesophagus through a two-stage weighting process. Results Data synthesized 114 (n =...

Abstract Background Oesophageal cell collection device (OCCD) and biomarker testing was implemented nationally across Scotland in 2020 following the COVID-19 pandemic for symptomatic reflux patients referred to secondary care. Collected cells undergo presence of trefoil factor 3 (TFF3), an indicator intestinal metaplasia (IM), addition atypia p53. Abstract Aims Laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the elderly patient is a challenging operation with variable outcomes. We evaluate outcome of patients who underwent laparoscopic hospital that serves large ageing population. Methods Retrospective analysis 53 over age 70 years between January and December 2023. Outcomes were compared elective vs emergency procedures, indications, groups (70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85+) Charlson comorbidity index (CCI). Results The mean was 77±4.9 years, CCI 4±1. Of...
