Abstract We present one of the first studies on source location determination for volcanic earthquakes and characterization subsurfaces using data from a distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) system. Using arrival time difference estimated well-correlated waveforms dense spatial distribution seismic amplitudes recorded along fiber-optic cable, we determine hypocenters at Azuma volcano, Japan. The sources are located shallow depth beneath active areas with range approximately 1 km. Spatial site...

Abstract We analyze seismic waves excited by small Strombolian explosions to understand the source process of volcanic explosions. deployed five broadband seismometers at only 100–300 m away from active craters Stromboli volcano, Italy. Moment tensor inversion entire signals in 0.05–0.2 Hz band locates a depth 170 and 150–200 west/southwest crater where acoustic are excited. Contrary, sources 0.2–0.5 0.5–1.0 bands almost explosion onset located close crater. show for first time that preceded...

<p>First DAS observation at Mt. Azuma, Japan was conducted in July 2019 using buried fiber optic cable along the road access to volcano. Azuma is an active volcano located Tohoku region. Different from non-volcanic regions, wavefields more complex due its topography and strong heterogeneities beneath volcanic edifice. The strength of scattering seismic waves small-scale velocity reported be than one order higher that To estimate heterogeneities, a dense network necessary. high...
