On 11 March 2011, the devastating M9.0 Tohoku Earthquake occurred on interface of subducting Pacific plate, and was followed by a huge tsunami that killed about 20,000 people. Several geophysical studies have already suggested very shallow portion plate might played an important role in producing such large earthquake tsunami. However, sparsity seafloor observations leads to insufficient spatial resolution fault slip interface. For this reason, location degree has not yet been estimated...
Real‐time crustal deformation monitoring is extremely important for achieving rapid understanding of actual earthquake scales, because the measured permanent displacement directly gives true size (seismic moment, M w ) information, which in turn, provides tsunami forecasting. We have developed an algorithm to detect/estimate static ground displacements due faulting from real‐time kinematic GPS (RTK‐GPS) time series. The new identifies by difference a short‐term average (STA) long‐term (LTA)...
The northeastern Japan arc is located in a typical subduction zone and seismically active region where large interplate earthquakes have occurred repeatedly. nationwide GPS network has made it possible to investigate the crustal deformation unprecedented detail; however, vertical displacements are less accurate than horizontal ones not been used constrain coupling models. In this study, carrier phase data analyzed order estimate three components of site displacements. result indicates uplift...
Summary The effects of elevated CO 2 are reported here on the uptake nitrogen (N) and its relationships with growth grain yield in rice ( Oryza sativa ). Using free‐air enrichment (FACE), crops were grown at ambient or (c. 300 µmol mol −1 above ambient) supplied low, medium high levels N. For N treatments, FACE increased panicle initiation but not maturity. total dry matter, as well spikelet number yield, positive interactions between observed. Furthermore, was closely associated initiation....
Abstract Although not as eye‐catching their business counterparts, many public and private institutions are currently experimenting with using platforms a strategy of governance. Governance now being constructed by wide array actors at different geographical scales across range issue areas. often enabled digital technology, governance fundamentally embody new organizing logic to achieve distributed participation mobilization. While transforming the way that companies create market products...
Large interplate earthquakes are often followed by postseismic slip that is considered to occur in areas surrounding the coseismic ruptures. Such spatial separation expected from difference frictional and material properties around faults. However, even though 2011 Tohoku Earthquake ruptured a vast area on plate interface, estimation of high-resolution usually difficult because lack seafloor geodetic data. Here using terrestrial data, we investigated examine whether it was spatially...
We use Global Positioning System (GPS) velocity data to model eastern Asian plate kinematics. Out of 15 stations in Korea, Russia, China, and Japan studied here, three sites considered be on the stable interior hypothetical Amurian Plate showed eastward velocities as fast ∼9–10 mm/yr with respect Eurasian Plate. They were stationary relative each other within 1 mm/yr, these vectors together those a few additional used accurately determine instantaneous angular (Euler) vector The predicted...
Temporal change of deformation in northeastern Japan is clarified by continuous Global Positioning System (GPS) observations from 1995 April to 2002 March. The observed GPS velocity approximately parallel the direction plate convergence on east and west boundaries shows post-seismic transient around source regions Mw 7.8 1993 Hokkaido-Nansei-Oki 7.7 1994 Sanriku-Haruka-Oki earthquakes. We interpret as contemporary interplate coupling subducting boundary Pacific Plate collision Amurian Plate....

We investigated the crustal deformation associated with 2011 off Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake (M 9.0) that occurred on March 11, 2011, along plate boundary district, northeastern Japan, based dense GPS observation. Coseismic displacements due to this event were applied estimate causal interplate slip by means a geodetic inversion analysis. The major area is located around asperities 1981 Miyagi-oki 7.2) and 2003 Fukushima-oki 6.8) earthquakes maximum estimated as being up 35 m....
A magnitude 7.3 foreshock occurred at the subducting Pacific plate interface on March 9, 2011, 51 h before 9.0 Tohoku earthquake off coast of Japan. We propose a coseismic and postseismic afterslip model event based global positioning system network ocean bottom pressure gauge sites. The estimated slip areas show complementary spatial distributions; distribution is located up‐dip for northward hypocenter earthquake. amount roughly consistent with that determined by repeating analysis carried...
For the first time, we demonstrated 55 nmCMOS/ spin-orbit-torque-device hybrid magnetic randomaccess memory (SOT-MRAM) cell with field free writing. writing, developed canted SOT device under 300 mm BEOL process full compatible 400°C thermal tolerance. Moreover, its advanced as follows; channel layer PVD for high spin Hall angle tolerance, low damage RIE technology of MTJ TMR/thermal stability factor (Δ) and ultra-smooth surface metal via to reduce contact resistance. By above technologies,...
Abstract We present one of the first studies on source location determination for volcanic earthquakes and characterization subsurfaces using data from a distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) system. Using arrival time difference estimated well-correlated waveforms dense spatial distribution seismic amplitudes recorded along fiber-optic cable, we determine hypocenters at Azuma volcano, Japan. The sources are located shallow depth beneath active areas with range approximately 1 km. Spatial site...
The temporal profile and phase of the fifth harmonic a Ti:sapphire laser were fully characterized by two-photon ionization frequency-resolved optical gating technique for first time. was found to have negative chirp pulse compression demonstrated. is well explained using zero-range potential model. This scalable extreme ultraviolet (XUV) soft x-ray regions currently available light sources, making it possible measure duration vacuum ultraviolet, XUV, pulses.

Abstract In 2004, we started monitoring crustal deformation at Kumano-nada in the Nankai trough using GPS/Acoustic technique. We observed a large southward seafloor displacement of ∼30 cm associated with off Kii Peninsula earthquake, which occurred September between our two survey campaigns August and November 2004. The is larger than that predicted from slip model derived solely GPS measurements on land. This may indicate earthquake fault slightly shallower extends move to NW previously estimated.
