A facile synthetic route to dimethylsila[7]helicene by using a Lewis acid catalyzed double-cyclization reaction for construction of the twisted two phenanthrene moieties is described. Sila[7]helicene exhibited high fluorescence quantum yield and realatively large g value (dissymmetric factor) circularly polarized luminencence (CPL) small molecules.

A solid-state dedicated circular dichroism (CD) spectrophotometer (J-800KCM) was designed and constructed. As a CD is polarization–modulation instrument, spectra are necessarily accompanied by artifacts due to macroscopic anisotropies such as linear birefringence (LB) (LD) which unique the solid state. photomultiplier with least polarization characteristics photoelastic modulator (PEM) residual static were selected for new based on electrical optical systems of commercially available...

Nalidixic acid, enoxacin, and other antibacterial 4-quinolones inhibit DNA gyrase activity by interrupting breakage reunion A subunits of the A2B2 complex. Despite their clinical importance, mode quinolone action mechanisms resistance are poorly understood at molecular level. Although there are many examples of catenanes, those more complex mechanically interlocked molecular architectures rare. Additionally, little attention has been paid to the degradation such systems into their starting complexes, although formation and complementary phenomena equally important. Interlocked metallohelicate, [(Pd(2)L(4))(2)](8+) (2(8+)), is a quadruply architecture consisting two monomers, [Pd(2)L(4)](4+) (1(4+)). 2(8+) three internal cavities, each which encapsulates one...

Solid-state CD spectroscopy can provide valuable information on conformation, intermolecular interactions, including chirality induction, and enantioselective reactions which occur specifically in the solid state. The technique can, however, suffer from serious artifacts. Some examples of solid-state are given potential artifacts discussed. Copyright 2000 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
