Purpose: This study investigates the feasibility of personalizing radiotherapy prescription schemes (treatment margins and fractional doses) for glioblastoma (GBM) patients their potential benefits using a proliferation invasion (PI) glioma model on phantoms. Methods Materials: We propose strategy to personalize by simulating tumor in 2D according PI model. demonstrate its presenting virtual cases, where standard personalized prescriptions were applied tumor. Standard was assumed deliver 46...

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an auto-immune disease with unknown cause. Many patients receiving traditional methotrexate treatment continue to exhibit joint damage and are then treated biologics. Biologic difficult owing the uncertainty in dose-response, high cost, side effects, intravenous administration. Recent clinical trials have therefore attempted response-guided dosing (RGD), where hope adapt biologic doses over course based on each patient's observed evolution of 28-joint activity...

Specifications-based grading (SBG) is an assessment scheme in which student grades are based on demonstrated understanding of known specifications tied to course learning outcomes. Typically with SBG, students given multiple opportunities demonstrate such understanding. In undergraduate-level introductory ordinary differential equations courses at two institutions, SBG has been found markedly decrease students’ self-reported anxiety related the as compared traditionally graded courses.

A general dynamic system model of an augmented electromagnetic launch (EML) was developed. This used to characterize the augmentation effect on EML performance by a direct comparison nonaugmented or simple railgun system. The results these calculations indicate that increasing rail increases both Joule heating losses and total inductance. These larger inductance were shown decrease efficiency despite lower peak current required induce same Lorentz force projectile in loss be reduced...

In this work, a differential delay equation (DDE) with cubic nonlinearity is analyzed as two parameters are varied by means of center manifold reduction. This reduction applied directly to the case where system undergoes Hopf-Hopf bifurcation. procedure replaces original DDE four first-order ODEs, an approximation valid in neighborhood Analysis resulting ODEs shows that separate periodic motions (limit cycles) and additional quasiperiodic motion born out The analytical results shown agree...

Education research has suggested that students who receive a wider variety of sensory inputs during the learning process will be able to make more connections and deeply understand course content. To this end, three physical hands-on laboratory modules were designed for computational numerical methods help develop intuition systems, allow comparison real data against solutions physics equations, increase student engagement. These reinforce specific topics covered in curriculum, including...

Summary Prion assemblies responsible for transmissible spongiform encephalopathies grow in the form of linear amyloid fibrils. Traditional models prion growth and tissue-spreading have relied upon assumption that propagation is based on process fragmentation, wherein an assembly literally breaks two, creating additional templating interfaces. Recent experimental data shows PrP Sc are detailed balance with elementary oligomeric building block called suPrP. In present work we compare dynamics...

In response-guided dosing (RGD), doses are adapted to the uncertain progression of each patient's disease condition. A stochastic dynamic program was recently developed for RGD. We study its robust counterpart, where dose-response distribution belongs an uncertainty set. For interval uncertainty, we prove that it is optimal administer higher in worsening disease. When a certain scaling nominal describes interval, also increase parameter. Theory illustrated via numerical results.

There has been a surge of clinical interest in the idea response-guided dosing (RGD). The goal RGD is to tailor drug-doses stochastic evolution each individual patient's disease condition over treatment course. hope that this form individualized therapy will deliver right dose patient at time. Several expert panels have observed despite excitement surrounding RGD, quantitative, data-driven decision-making approaches learn patients' dose-response and incorporate information into adaptive...
