Abstract Tropical cyclones play an increasingly important role in shaping ecosystems. Understanding and generalizing their responses is challenging because of meteorological variability among storms its interaction with We present a research framework designed to compare tropical cyclone effects within across ecosystems that: a) uses disaggregating approach that measures the individual ecosystem components, b) links response components at fine temporal scales meteorology antecedent...
Abstract Lithium isotopes are used to trace weathering intensity, but little is known about the processes that fractionate them in highly weathered settings, where secondary minerals play a dominant role reactions. To help fill this gap our knowledge of Li isotope systematics, we investigated fractionation at an andesitic catchment Puerto Rico, highest rates silicate on Earth have been documented. We found lowest δ 7 values published date for porewater (−27‰) and bulk regolith (−38‰),...
We interpret the voluminous late Eocene–early Oligocene volcanic successions of north-central Sierra Madre del Sur as eruptive manifestation a progressive thermomechanical maturation crust, driven by sustained igneous activity that affected region since early Eocene. Widespread Eocene magmatism and injection mantle-derived melts into crust beneath Michoacán-Puebla area promoted development hot zone extending to upper crustal levels, formation mature intracrustal magmatic system. Within this...
To better constrain the mechanisms controlling short-term Mg dynamics in tropics, we sampled critical zone compartments of a catchment covered by thick, highly weathered regolith. Our and δ26Mg data indicate that rain is main source throughout regolith, do not observe isotope offsets vegetation/surficial pore water. In addition to weathering inputs, heavy excursion at ∼1 m depth indicates fractionation process, likely sorption-desorption or clay dissolution. Stream water reflects inputs from...
