Abstract A commercial lipase (E.C. 3.1.1.3) from Thermomyces lanuginosus was studied in order to assess its interaction with nonionic (Findet ® 1214N/16, Findet 1214N/23 and Glucopon 650) anionic (linear alkylbenzene sulphonate; LAS) surfactants, as well the cleaning action exerted by enzyme on hard surfaces. Nonionic surfactants seem prevent or delay penetration at interface, thereby decreasing activity. Notably, no inhibitory effect of surfactant LAS found, higher conversions being...
The selective functionalization of carbon nanotube surfaces is crucial for many potential applications these materials. For this purpose several oxidants, among other substances, are used. aim to reach a large degree which depends on the oxidant character reagent. reason multiwall nanotubes (MWCNTs) by treatment with ozone in basic solution studied. At pHs, results into hydroxyl radicals whose reduction very high (E° = 3.06 V). have been compared those obtained gas phase and cold oxygen...
Abstract BACKGROUND The olive oil extraction process currently used in Spain and other Mediterranean countries generates large amounts of a semi‐solid by‐product known as ‘alpeorujo’ or ‘two‐phase mill waste’ ( TPOMW ). Although can be source valuable compounds, it is mostly dried burnt to produce energy. This paper, for the first time, reports use main carbon production surfactin, high added value biosurfactant, by Bacillus subtilis DSM 3256. RESULTS 3256 was able grow on , surface tension...
In this work, the environmental compatibility of a biosurfactant produced by Bacillus subtilis strain isolated from soil Brazilian mangrove was investigated. The biosurfactant, identified as surfactin, is able to reduce surface tension (ST) 31.5 ± 0.1 mN m−1 and exhibits lowcritical micelle concentration (CMC) value (0.015 0.003 g L−1). highest crude (224.3 1.9 mg L−1) reached at 72 h fermentation. Acute toxicity tests, carried out with Daphnia magna, Vibrio fischeri Selenastrum...
Abstract In this work we have assessed the decolorization of textile effluents throughout their treatment in a solid-state fermentation (SSF) system. SSF assays were conducted with peach-palm (Bactris gasipaes) residue using white rot fungus Ganoderma lucidum EF 31. The influence dye concentration and amounts liquid phase on both discoloration efficiency enzyme production was studied. According to our results, independently experimental conditions employed, laccase main ligninolytic produced...
Biosurfactants are amphiphilic compounds of microbial origin which exhibit better properties than their chemically derived counterparts. They usually produced in submerged fermentation by different types bacteria. However, biosurfactant production fungi, particularly the white-rot type, has been scarcely studied. In this work, and for first time, we report biosurfactants fungus Trametes versicolor, was grown on two-phase olive mill waste (TPOMW) a solid-state system. The effect composition...
Lipases have been added to detergents in an attempt develop more environmentally friendly and energy efficient products for triglyceride-based stains. However, research is needed improve the efficiency of lipase-containing detergents. In this work we examined all factors affecting lipase performance detergent formulations, particularly hard surface cleaning. Several issues, such as thermal hydrodynamic stability, kinetic aspects, surfactant compatibility, both solution at oil/water...
Abstract The present work analyzes the effect of incorporating a lipolytic enzyme (Lipolase ® 100L) into detergent formulas for washing fatty soils on hard surfaces. experimental device, which is called “bath‐substrate‐flow” uses continuous flow substrate (glass spheres) soiled with triolein. Washing tests were done using only and changing both its concentration temperature process. results showed that, in presence lipase, soil removal was achieved through three consecutive mechanisms: (i)...
Spent coffee grounds (SCG) are wastes generated in high amounts worldwide. Their composition makes them a promising feedstock for biotechnological processes. Here we show that the production of biosurfactant surfactin by submerged culture Bacillus subtilis strain growing on SCG is possible, reaching concentrations up to 8.8 mg/L when using at 8.3 g/L medium. In addition, report synergy between and recovery melanoidins, an added-value compound already present SCG. More specifically,...
Abstract BACKGROUND Waste oils are gaining interest as an alternative carbon source in fermentation processes option for the development of cost‐effective and renewable processes. In this study, production biosurfactant surfactin by three different Bacillus subtilis strains was investigated using waste frying two forms: (i) emulsified oil (EWO), (ii) enzymatically hydrolyzed (HWO). Thus, objective work is to analyze effect a hydrolytic pretreatment on increase bioavailability over cell...
Abstract Detersive processes are complex systems involving a great number of variables. To determine the effect these variables on washing hard surfaces and fatty soils is object this work. The statistical design experiments has been used to evaluate influence factors such as temperature, soil concentration surfactant detergency. experimental trials have made in continuous‐flow device where soiling agent confined column filled with borosilicate glass spheres. Solutions commercial Berol ©...
Abstract The degradation of linear alkylbenzene sulfonates (LAS) in aqueous solutions by ozone has been investigated. ozonation process was performed a stirred tank reactor with recirculation which simulates the clean-in-place used many industrial facilities. gas-liquid mass transfer buffer solution at different temperatures (25–55°C) also studied same device, revealing that decomposition can be considered negligible under experimental conditions assayed. effect initial LAS concentration,...
ABSTRACT The kinetics of fatty soil removal from glass surfaces using nonionic biodegradable surfactants has been investigated. For this, mathematical models have developed, which take into account the equilibrium established between processes substrate surface and their subsequent redeposition. washing tests conducted in a continuous‐flow device that simulates conditions found clean‐in‐place system used food industry. A mixture acids (oleic, palmitic stearic) frequently foods, particularly...
The cleaning of hard surfaces soiled with starch films using nonionic (alkylpolyglucosides and polyoxyethylene alkyl ethers) zwitterionic (lauramine oxide) surfactant solutions has been investigated. Response surface methodology was applied to determine the effect composition solution on detergency, as well relationship between contact angle removal efficacy such films. surfactants a higher capacity for were lauramine oxide alkylpolyglucosides, their mixtures. ethers also statistically...
