Undifferentiated gastrointestinal tract carcinomas are rare highly aggressive neoplasms with frequent but not obligatory rhabdoid features. Recent studies showed loss of SMARCB1 (INI1), a core subunit the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex, in 50% tested cases. However, molecular pathways underlying histologically similar SMARCB1-intact cases unknown. We herein analyzed 13 for expression 4 complex subunits SMARCB1, SMARCA2, SMARCA4, and ARID1A mismatch-repair proteins MLH1, MSH2, MSH6,...

This study was undertaken to determine the frequency, and clinicopathologic genetic features, of colon cancers driven by neurotrophic receptor tyrosine kinase (NTRK) gene fusions. Of 7008 tumors screened for NTRK expression using a pan-Trk antibody, 16 (0.23%) had Trk immunoreactivity. ArcherDx assay detected TPM3-NTRK1 (n=9), LMNA-NTRK1 (n=3), TPR-NTRK1 (n=2) EML4-NTRK3 (n=1) fusion transcripts in 15 cases with sufficient RNA quality. Patients were predominantly women (median age: 63 y)....

Biphasic squamoid alveolar renal cell carcinoma (BSARCC) has been recently described as a distinct neoplasm. Twenty-one cases from 12 institutions were analyzed using routine histology, immunohistochemistry, array comparative genomic hybridization (aCGH) and fluorescence in situ hybridization. Tumors removed 11 male 10 female patients, whose age ranged 53 to 79 years. The size of tumors 1.5 16 cm. Follow-up information was available for 14 patients (range, 1 96 mo), metastatic spread found 5...

ATP-binding cassette (ABC) and solute carrier (SLC) transporters translocate diverse substances across cellular membranes their deregulation may cause drug resistance of cancers. This study investigated significance protein expression localization the previously suggested putative prognostic markers ABCC2 SLC22A3 in pancreatic cancer patients. Protein brush border staining intensity was assessed tumor tissue blocks 65 patients associated with clinical data survival regard to therapy....

Aim . The goal of this study was to semiquantitatively detect presence cancer stem cells markers CD44 and CD133 in immunohistochemically stained paired samples colorectal (CRC) liver metastases (CLM). Level staining intensity compared clinical pathological characteristics tumors with the aim identify impact or expression on tumor behavior. Patients Methods Formalin fixed paraffin embedded from 94 patients were collected at Sikl’s Department Pathology. Samples by antibodies against CD133....

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a fatal disease characterized by early genetic alterations in telomerase reverse transcriptase promoter (TERTp) and β-catenin (CTNNB1) genes immune cell activation the tumor microenvironment. As novel approach, we wanted to assess patient survival influenced combined presence of mutations densities CD8+ cytotoxic T cells.Tissue samples were obtained from 67 HCC patients who had undergone resection. We analysed cells density, TERTp mutations, rs2853669...

Abstract Schlafen 11 (SLFN11), a regulator of cell fate following DNA injury, sensitizes tumor cells to DNA‐damaging agents. Patients with SLFN11‐positive tumors may benefit from chemotherapies. SLFN11 has been studied in different types cancer including colorectal carcinomas. However, carcinomas diffuse positivity (expression ≥80% cells) have not meticulously characterized. immunostaining microarrays (TMAs) 3,300 primary CRCs identified 65 (~2.0%) focal staining (<10% nuclei positive),...

Hepatic epithelioid haemangio-endothelioma (HEHE) is a very rare malignant tumor of vascular origin and uncertain biological behaviour that difficult to diagnose using preoperative radiology diagnostic techniques. The authors present here two patients with HEHE different extent. We report 50 cases of peculiar histiocytic proliferations occurring in diverse body sites that currently bear various names, including nodular mesothelial/histiocytic hyperplasia, aggregates, mesothelial/monocytic incidental cardiac excrescences, reactive eosinophilic pleuritis, histioeosinophilic granuloma the thymus, and intralymphatic histiocytosis. They can sometimes cause considerable differential diagnostic difficulties by resembling a metastatic carcinoma or Langerhans cell Several...
