本研究の目的は集中治療室(intensive care unit. 以下,ICU)で身体抑制の減少に取り組んだ看護師の思考のプロセスを明らかにすることである.A病院ICUにて身体抑制の減少に取り組んだ看護師15名を対象に半構成的面接を行い,修正版グラウンデッド・セオリー・アプローチに基づき分析した.その結果,ICUで身体抑制の減少に取り組んだ看護師の思考のプロセスは,ICUで身体抑制をなくすことを看護として意味づけていくプロセスとして,9個のカテゴリと4個の概念によって説明することができた.それは,【違和感を覚えながらも患者の生命の安全を守るために当たり前のようにしていた身体抑制】を起点として,取り組みをきっかけに,患者をそばで見守るなかで看護の視点を見出していった.そして,看護師はジレンマや困難感がありながらも,ケアの成果の実感を得てチームとして成長し,【身体抑制をなくすことを思考錯誤するなかで見出された最善の看護と充実感】に至るプロセスとして明らかとなった.
