A new purple sulfur bacterium was isolated from microbial films on decaying plant mass in the near-shore area of soda lake Malyi Kasytui (pH 9·5, 0·2% salinity) located steppe Chita region south-east Siberia. Single cells were vibrioid- or spiral-shaped (3–4μm wide and 7–20 μm long) motile by means a polar tuft flagella. Internal photosynthetic membranes lamellar type. Lamellae almost filled whole cell, forming strands coils. Photosynthetic pigments bacteriochlorophy II carotenoids...

'Candidatus Chloroploca asiatica' B7–9 and Viridilinea mediisalina' Kir15-3F are mesophilic filamentous anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria from alkaline aquatic environments. Both became available in the last few years only stable enrichment culture. In this study, we report draft genomic sequences of 'Ca. asiatica ' Kir15-3F, which were assembled metagenomes their cultures with a fold coverage 86.3× 163.8×, respectively. The (5.8 Mb) (5.6 genome harbors 4818 4595 predicted protein-coding...

A new alkaliphilic strain of a purple sulphur bacterium designated as Um2 (=KCTC 25734=VKM B-3893=UQM 41073) with bacteriochlorophyll b and internal photosynthetic membranes tubular type was isolated from the Umhei hydrothermal system (40 °C, pH 9.3 salinity 0.42 g l −1 ) located in Baikal rift zone (Russia). Based on morphological physiological characteristics, this classified Thioalkalicoccus limnaeus . The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity 96.69% Tac. A26 T , 95.41% ‘ Thioflavicoccus...

Four strains of purple sulfur bacteria containing bacteriochlorophyll b were isolated from cyanobacterial mats soda lakes in the steppe south-east Siberia, Russia. Cells all cocci without gas vesicles. Eventually, cells with flagella seen electron microscope, but motile observed very rarely cultures. Internal photosynthetic membranes tubular type. Photosynthetic pigments and carotenoids spectral characteristics similar to 3,4,3',4'-tetrahydrospirilloxanthin. The obligately phototrophic...

During studies of moderately halophilic strains Ectothiorhodospira from steppe soda lakes, we found a novel group bacteria related to haloalkaliphila with salt optima at 50–80 g NaCl l−1. Phylogenetic analysis using 16S rRNA gene sequences lakes in Mongolia, Egypt and Siberia revealed separation the new isolates other species, including closely Ect. haloalkaliphila. DNA–DNA hybridization demonstrated that form homogeneous species level, but same time are distinct such as haloalkaliphila,...

In this article, we present the description of a novel mesophilic phototrophic Chloroflexi bacterium, 'Candidatus Viridilinea mediisalina' Kir15–3F. We have isolated an anaerobic, highly enriched culture bacterium from Kiran soda lake (Siberia) and optimized its cultivation. Metagenomic sequencing revealed that 'Ca. Kir15–3F is bacteriochlorophyll-containing in enrichment culture. Fluorescent situ hybridisation demonstrated link between phenotype described here genome. Spectrophotometry...

ABSTRACT We present the results of a study mesophilic anoxygenic phototrophic Chloroflexota bacteria from Mechigmen hot spring (the Chukotka Peninsula) and Siberia. According to 16S rRNA phylogenetic analysis, these belong Oscillochloris trichoides. However, sequencing draft genome bacterium analysis average nucleotide identity, as well in silico DNA-DNA hybridization, reveal that this belongs novel species within genus. We, therefore, propose ‘Candidatus fontis’ taxon represent alkaliphilic...
