<title>Abstract</title> Saline lakes are hypersensitive to changes in their water balance and therefore show amplified responses climatic land-use catchment. However, despite the resulting, often dramatic ecological consequences, saline rank low on policy agendas as they assumed support few ecosystem services levels of biodiversity. Here, we challenge this view evaluate threatened species 84 distributed across globe. We found that harbour not only aquatic biota but also a diverse range...
We studied the distribution of anoxygenic phototrophs in 23 steppe lakes Transbaikal region (Russia), Uzbekistan (Central Asia) and Crimean peninsula (Ukraine). The varied their mineral content composition (salinities from 0.2 to 300 g L(-1) ). were alkaline (pH>9), with high amounts soda. Uzbek more pH neutral, frequently sulfates. presence was registered by infrared epifluorescence microscopy, fluorometry pigment analyses. In mostly shallow, fully oxic lakes, represented 7-65% total...
Geochemical specifics of lake water the Kulunda Steppe territory (Altay region, Russia) are studied. The results show that in mainly chloride and less soda lakes with sodium compound developed. It is presented calcite saturation indexes (SI) increase growth pH, but decrease such minerals as gypsum barite. opposite situation typical for SI depending on salinity. revealed evaporation, secondary mineral formation various biological processes have greatest impact accumulation elements solution.
