The triplet-singlet emission spectra of a number carcinogenic hydrocarbons are recorded together with the corresponding their 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene complexes. A new explanation complex is given, involving radiationless transition from an ionic ``charge transfer'' state to triplet complex.
New data for anthracene and naphthacene suggest that the lowest triplet levels of polyacenes are species 3Lb. This makes 39,000 cm−1 singlet band benzene symmetry B2u as was originally proposed not B1u later suggested.
