A cross-sectional study was conducted investigating the association between exposure to financial, political, academic and social stressors, symptoms of depression, anxiety burnout among university students in Lebanon. Lebanon is a developing country experiencing financial crisis sociopolitical turmoil with poorly characterized impacts on mental health residents. To assess anxiety, condensed version Malach-Pines Burnout Measure Patient Health Questionnaire-4 (PHQ-4) were used, respectively....
A pyrene-based benzimidazole-linked polymer (BILP-10) has been synthesized by the co-condensation of 1,3,6,8-tetrakis(4-formylphenyl)pyrene and 1,2,4,5-benzenetetramine tetrahydrochloride in dimethylformamide. The use pyrene as a molecular building unit leads to formation self-assembled nanofibers that have moderate surface area (SABET = 787 m2 g−1) very high CO2/N2 (128) CO2/CH4 (18) selectivities at 273 K. Furthermore, results from gas uptake measurements indicate BILP-10 can store...
The high chemical and structural diversity of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), which are porous crystalline materials, has attracted significant academic industrial interest. However, the poor processability MOF powders limits their full potential in practical applications. Toward this end, MOF-based composite materials increase framework robustness subsequent utility. Among these hybrid composites prepared on commercially available textile fibers offer flexibility needed for important...
Abstract Background Early exposure to medical research, specifically at the undergraduate level, contributes in building a solid education for students. In 2014, Medical Research Volunteer Program (MRVP) was established American University of Beirut (AUB). This program provides students with opportunity be involved ongoing research projects, on voluntary basis. Little is known about undergraduates’ outlook and challenges they face. The aim this study assess, among AUB students, perception,...
Tetrahydropyrene and pyrene have been functionalized in their 2,7-positions with carbazole 3,6-di-tert-butylcarbazole groups, the properties of these new compounds are compared to analogous derivatives benzene biphenyl using X-ray crystallography, UV-vis absorption fluorescence spectroscopy, electrochemistry, quantum-chemical calculations. The spectra similar those biphenyl-bridged analogues, although TD-DFT calculations indicate a different description excited states case, lowest observed...
Photocatalytic CO2 reduction into formate (HCOO-) has been widely studied with semiconductor and molecule-based systems, but it is rarely investigated covalent organic frameworks (COFs). Herein, we report a novel donor-acceptor COF named Co-PI-COF composed of isoindigo metallated porphyrin subunits that exhibits high catalytic efficiency (∼50 μmol g-1 h-1) at low-power visible-light irradiation in the absence rare metal cocatalysts. Density functional theory calculations experimental...
An isomeric mixture of a tris(pentafluorobenzyl ester) derivative hexaazatrinaphthylene forms stable amorphous films with an effective charge-carrier mobility 0.02 cm2/Vs, while the pure 2,8,15-isomer exhibits widely differing morphologies and carrier mobilities (0.001-0.07 cm2/Vs), depending critically on processing conditions.
Abstract Several hexaazatrinaphthylene derivatives and a tris(thieno)hexaazatriphenylene derivative have been synthesised by reaction of the appropriate diamines with hexaketocyclohexane. The crystal structure 2,3,8,9,14,15‐hexachloro‐5,6,11,12,17,18‐hexaazatrinaphthylene has determined X‐ray diffraction; this reveals molecular in good agreement that predicted density functional theory (DFT) calculations π‐stacking an average spacing between adjacent planes 3.18 Å. Solid‐state ionisation...
The nature of vibronic coupling in fused polycyclic benzene-thiophene structures has been studied using an approach that combines high-resolution gas-phase photoelectron spectroscopy measurements with first-principles quantum-mechanical calculations. results indicate general the electron-vibrational is stronger than hole-vibrational coupling. In acenedithiophenes, main contributions to arise from medium- and high-frequency vibrations. thienobisbenzothiophenes, however, interaction holes...
It is known that in photovoltaic applications, columnar discotic liquid crystal (LC) phases of conjugated compounds are useful to align the molecules for improving their charge mobilities. However, usually either crystalline or amorphous. For form LC phases, specific molecular design required ordered structural packing. In our recent report, a series compounds, 6,7,15,16-tetrakis(alkylthio)quinoxalino-[2′,3′:9,10]-phenanthro[4,5-abc]phenazine (TQPP-[SCn]4) (n = 6, 8, 10 and 12), which...
Quinoxalino[2′,3′:9,10]phenanthro[4,5-abc]phenazine (QPP) dyes have been studied as electron acceptor materials, fluorophores, and building blocks for self-organizing organic semiconductors. Condensation of tetraketopyrene with electron-rich diamino-terphenylene -triphenylene derivatives generates new donor–acceptor QPP that display columnar mesomorphism over wide ranges temperature; are fluorescent in solution, liquid crystal, solid phases; properties. Also reported the synthesis properties...
Stable, soluble ethynylated derivatives of pentacene (9a−c) were synthesized, and the ethynyl moieties on terminal rings used to tune electronic properties these compounds. Their oxidation potentials are higher their reduction lower than those pentacene. The HOMO−LUMO gaps among lowest reported for derivatives.
Nine 1,3,6,8-tetraarylpyrenes were prepared and characterized for OLED-based blue-light emission.
We report isomer-pure synthesis of thieno[2,3-f:5,4-f ']bis[1]benzothiophene and thieno[3,2-f:4,5-f ']bis[1]benzothiophene, the anti syn isomers a pentacyclic compound consisting alternating thiophene benzene rings. The optical electrochemical properties both are reported. In isomer, ribbonlike embedding three units leads to near-planar molecule with favorable π−π stacking behavior in solid state as shown by X-ray crystal structure analysis.
We report a first investigation of two new isomer-pure thieno[f,f′]bis[1]benzothiophenes, i.e.syn and anti with respect to the orientation thiophenes along long axis molecule, applied as organic semiconductors in field-effect transistors. The mobility both regioisomers is substantial reaches up 0.12 cm2 V−1 s−1, value that at most one order magnitude lower than best known transistors based on silicon dioxide gate insulators.
