We report isomer-pure synthesis of thieno[2,3-f:5,4-f ']bis[1]benzothiophene and thieno[3,2-f:4,5-f ']bis[1]benzothiophene, the anti syn isomers a pentacyclic compound consisting alternating thiophene benzene rings. The optical electrochemical properties both are reported. In isomer, ribbonlike embedding three units leads to near-planar molecule with favorable π−π stacking behavior in solid state as shown by X-ray crystal structure analysis.

We report a first investigation of two new isomer-pure thieno[f,f′]bis[1]benzothiophenes, i.e.syn and anti with respect to the orientation thiophenes along long axis molecule, applied as organic semiconductors in field-effect transistors. The mobility both regioisomers is substantial reaches up 0.12 cm2 V−1 s−1, value that at most one order magnitude lower than best known transistors based on silicon dioxide gate insulators.
