We have prepared nylon 6,10 nanocomposites using functionalized single wall carbon nanotubes and our interfacial in situ polycondensation method. The specific functional groups -(CH2)nCOCl [n = 4 9] on the sidewalls of SWNT were designed to covalently link matrix via alkyl segments. composites with show significant improvements tensile modulus, strength, toughness relative modified non-functionalized SWNT. linkages at SWNT/nylon interface contribute significantly improving composites.

Thermoreversible organogels were prepared from carbamates with alkyl side chains of different lengths. Gelation was possible only up to an chain length 12 carbons, beyond which crystallization occurs, due the dominant van der Waals interaction between chains. This is in contrast other alkane-based organogels, gelating efficiency increased alkane (see Abdallah, D. J.; Weiss, R. G. Adv. Mater. 2000, 12, 1237). The critical concentration for gelation decreases drastically increase length....

Abstract Giant viruses (GVs) play crucial roles in the global ocean microbial food web and biogeochemistry by infecting protists. Traditionally, insights into GV ecology functions have been limited to culture-based studies. However, recent metagenomic advances uncovered over 1,800 new genomes from world’s oceans. While this rapid increase genomic information marks an impressive advance for field, it is nowhere close extensive available other marine entities - e.g., prokaryotes their...
