Abstract A new method for measuring solid/liquid surface energies, with a total systematic and random error of well under 10%, is described. The energies are derived from measurements grain-boundary grooves in interfaces which maintained shallow temperature gradients. gradients established by an axial heater wire cylindrical specimen chamber. Applying the to highly-purified succinonitrile, energy 8·94±0·5 erg/cm2 was determined. This corresponds 37% heat fusion per molecule.

We investigated the effect of proton FLASH radiation on plasmid DNA. Purified supercoiled pBR322 plasmids were irradiated with clinical doses (≤10 Gy) protons at ultra-high and conventional dose rates using Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) isochronous cyclotron. The beam in this facility has been validated to produce preclinical models. Plasmid samples under various oxygen tensions, scavenger levels, pH conditions Fe (II) concentrations as these biochemical parameters vary across tissues...

Significance The dormant subpopulations of Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms are linked to chronic infections because cells tolerate antibiotic treatment and then repopulate the when conditions become favorable. Dormant must maintain cellular integrity, including preformed ribosomes, resuscitate. small-ribosome–binding proteins, ribosome modulation factor, hibernation promoting factor (HPF) have evolved ribosomes in an inactive state. Using both population single-cell–level studies, we show...

The FLASH effect has been validated in different preclinical experiments with electrons (eFLASH) and protons (pFLASH) operating at an average dose rate above 40 Gy/s. However, no systematic intercomparison of the produced by eFLASHvs. pFLASH yet performed constitutes aim present study.

Research on ultra-high dose rate (UHDR) radiation therapy has indicated its potential to spare normal tissue while maintaining equivalent tumor control compared conventional treatments. First clinical trials are underway. The randomized phase II/III FEATHER trial at the Paul Scherrer Institute in collaboration with University of Zurich Animal Hospital is one first curative domestic animal be attempted, and it designed provide a good example for human trials. However, lack standardized...

The thermospheric composition (O/N2 ratio and NO) condition represents the state of thermosphere. Significant changes in neutral wind are often observed during non-storm time (e.g. a weak substorm on May 29, 2023) due to continous energy momentum input from solar geospace.  It is challenging find days when impact minimized geospace at its ground (super quiet) or undisturbed conditon. After search SuperMAG database over two decades (2002-2022), we finally identified few super quiet...
