Abstract In this paper, I will distinguish two varieties of external world skepticism: belief and confidence skepticism. argue that we can defang the intuitive motivations for skepticism (though not a meeker “argument from might,” which got some attention in twentieth century literature on skepticism) by adopting partially psychologistic answer to problem priors. This note points out a conflict between some common intuitions about metaphysical possibility. On the one hand, it is appealing to deny that there are robust counterfactuals how various physically impossible substances would interact with matter exists at our world. other concepts like MOUNTAIN apply metaphysically possible worlds seem presuppose facts 'solidity' which cash in terms of these counterfactuals. It is sometimes suggested that we can (in a sense) settle the truth-value of some statements in language number theory by stipulation, adopting either ϕ or ¬ϕ as an additional axiom. For example, Clarke-Doane, well series recent APA presentations, suggest any sound expansion our current arithmetical practice would express truth. In this article, I will argue (given certain popular assumption about model-theoretic representability languages like ours) can't know ourselves to have such freedom.
