To study the nature of numerous inclusion bodies seen in red cells from patients with sickle cell disease (Hb SS), we have prepared ghosts free oxyhemoglobin and analyzed them by spectrophotometric heme extraction methods. The absorption spectrum visible region ghost suspensions was typical hemichromes. similar to that denatured hemoglobin repared treatment S mechanical shaking or heat. Similar containing only normal AA) showed a very small amount hemoglobin, approximately one-fifth Hb SS...
The rate of denaturation hemaglobin and other proteins by mechanical shaking is strongly affected organic solvents. A group pf solvents, including alcohols ketones, was found to stabilize at low concentrations, although these same solvents denatured high concentrations. stabilizing effect increased with increasing chain lenghts. second solvents, including toluene chloroform, showed only a destabilizing effect, while the third such as formamide pentane had no over wide range Organic may be...
We have proposed a new configuration of Tapered Slot Antenna (TSA) with an improved radiation pattern. The design has tapered section expressed by the Fermi-Dirac distribution function. At 60 GHz, H-plane side lobe level antenna is 5-dB lower than that conventional TSA's such as Linearly Antennas. also present technique for reducing width TSA without degradation
Abstract A series of size‐controlled, cyclic poly(tetrahydrofuran)s ( $\overline M _{{\rm n,NMR}}$ 4 400–8 600) that consist exclusively the monomer, i.e., oxytetramethylene, unit I ) have been prepared in high yield through metathesis polymer cyclization a telechelic precursor having allyl groups, 1 , presence Grubbs catalyst, and subsequent hydrogenation linking, 2‐butenoxy, an Adams' catalyst (PtO 2 ). remarkable topology effect has subsequently observed upon isothermal crystallization...
A versatile synthetic means for cyclic diblock copolymers has been developed by the combination of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and ring-closing metathesis (RCM) techniques. Thus, first, an A−B type allyl-telechelic copolymer comprised two different acrylate ester segments, i.e., poly(methyl acrylate)-b-poly(n-butyl acrylate), poly(MA)-b-poly(BA), was prepared via ATRP MA, followed addition second monomer, BA, with allyl bromide as initiator allyltributylstannane end-capping...
Abstract Focusing on a single molecule of multibranched polymers, the surface properties silicon wafers modified with such as linear, comb-like, and arborescent polymers having hydrosilyl groups were investigated. The polymer surfaces showed hydrophobicity, water contact angle increased increasing branching generation. It was revealed that structure enables to control wettability.
We discuss how the radiation pattern of a reduced ground plane tapered slot antenna (TSA) is improved by varying dimensions corrugated structure present at edge TSA substrate. Experimental results are given that indicate E-plane patterns can be adjusted corrugation geometry. also calculated analyses using finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method.
The homogeneity of the polymer hybrid was controlled by Diels−Alder reaction. hybrids were prepared from styrene copolymer bearing pendent furan moieties (20%) and tetraethoxysilane using maleimide silane coupling agent a sol−gel process. Styrene synthesized free radical copolymerization with 4-furfuryloxymethylstyrene. IR spectroscopic data materials support occurrence reaction between agent. thermal morphological properties investigated DSC, TGA, SEM. retro-Diels−Alder observed in DSC...
Abstract An efficient synthetic route to cyclic polymers has been demonstrated through atom-transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and subsequent ring-closing metathesis (RCM) reaction. Thus, telechelic poly(methyl acrylate) (PMA) having allyl groups was synthesized by ATRP of methyl acrylate with a difunctional initiator the end-capping reaction allyltributyltin. The following RCM proceeded even under dilution in presence Grubbs catalyst give PMA high yield.
The effect of hemogldbin (Hb) F on the aggregation and solubility deoxy-Hb S in concentrated phosphate buffer has been investigated by turbidimetric method. The addition Hb to dilute solutions prolonged delay time, with an much stronger than that A. slope logarithmic plot reciprocal time uersus hemoglobin concentration depended upon fraction concentration, suggesting size nuclei produced mixture is affected not only but F. Electrophoretic analysis aggregates showed a considerable amount was...
Based on the electronic energy state of Fe2+ ion in crystalline fields Fe7S8 and Fe7Se8 (4c) with a pseudo NiAs structure, expression magnetic anisotropy were derived by perturbation method under an appropriate approximation. Then experimental results magnetization curves analyzed from this theory physical constants for energy, such as orbital angular momentum lowest energies second- fourth-order, estimated. Using these constants, temperature dependence spin angle (the second-order...
A new turbidimetric method for the direct measurement of solubility oxy-and deoxyhemoglobins (Hb) in concentrated phosphate buffer has been established. The principle is formation a homogeneous emulsion when hemoglobin introduced buffer. The oxy and deoxy forms Hb A, S, C, F, Caarlem @6G'"' vpl, j173ABp-Asn) studied. The deoxy-Hb S was lowest curve broader than those other hemoglobins indicating that aggregates require more water to be dissolved. The depends on temperature pH.The increased as...
The antisickling effect of cetiedil, alpha-cyclohexyl-3-thiopheneacetic acid 2-(hexahydro-1H-azepin-1-yl)-ethyl ester, has been investigated. concentration cetiedil required for 50% inhibition erythrocyte sickling was about 140 micro M. An achieved regardless whether added before or after deoxygenation. minimal gelling deoxy Hb S increased by less than 10% in the presence 218 M cetiedil. oxygen equilibrium curves were not significantly affected Erythrocytes treated with high concentrations...
Diluted solutions (less than 100 mg/dl) of deoxygenated sickle hemoglobin (Hb S) and Hb CHarlem were found to aggregate with a clear demonstration delay time when dissolved in concentrated phosphate buffer. The could be shortened by increasing the concentration either or phosphate. Upon cooling bubbling carbon monoxide, aggregates melted quickly. logarithmic plot reciprocal versus shows linear line slope 2.7 for 44 This suggests that diluted S nucleation mechanism which is similar reported...
We have reported the importance of epidermal growth factor (EGF) for induction obesity in mice. In this study, we studied effects EGF on lipogenic enzymes and accumulation triglyceride a differentiated mouse adipocyte cell vitro. Mouse 3T3-L1 preadipocytic cells into mature adipocytes after differentiation procedure by insulin, dexamethasone, methyl-isobutyl-xanthine. 125I-EGF binding studies showed specific bindings, they expressed gene transcripts receptors reverse transcription polymerase...
Wagenbach et al. (1991, BioTechnology, 9, 57-61) have recently developed a system for producing soluble recombinant tetrameric hemoglobin in yeast: begins to appear 4-5 h after induction with galactose, alpha- and beta-globin chains fold vivo endogeneously produced heme is incorporated into tetramers. We further characterized the oxygen-binding properties, as well tetramer stability, of human Hb A made yeast. After purification by ion-exchange chromatography, single band at same position...
There are three major African haplotypes associated with the sickle mutation: Benin (#19), Senegalese (#3), and Central Repblic (#20). Previous studies have suggested that Xmn I site (-158 bp 5′ to Gγ gene) is elevated levels of andwiththe Senegalesehaplotype, while other investigators questioned this association. In order clarify theissue.we determined βhalotypes, tested fortlie presenceof theXninI site, measured HbF expressionlevels in 143 AmericanBlackpatients cell anemia. Haplotypes were...
