In order to develop a new skin whitening agent, safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) seeds were evaluated for melanogenesis inhibitory activity and its active principles identified following activity-guided isolation. The 80% aqueous methanol extract ethyl acetate fraction from showed significant inhibition mushroom tyrosinase. Three compounds, N-feruloylserotonin, N-(p-coumaroyl)serotonin, acacetin, isolated the as principles. Compared with arbutin (IC50=0.223 mM), IC50 values of these...

We aimed to identify and characterize subtypes of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) exhibiting different patterns regional brain atrophy on MRI using age- gender-specific norms volumes. AD subjects included in the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative study were classified into based standardized values (Z-scores) hippocampal cortical volumes with reference obtained from 222 cognitively normal (CN) subjects. Baseline longitudinal changes clinical characteristics over 2 years compared across...

An optically controlled energy-harvesting smart window that incorporates a semitransparent solar cell with photosensitive liquid crystal (LC) layer is demonstrated. The LC can switch between transparent (day mode) and an opaque (night state depending upon the incident radiation. Combined photovoltaic cell, this provides template for future systems.

Mer signaling participates in a novel inhibitory pathway TLR activation. The purpose of the present study was to examine role down-regulation TLR4 activation-driven immune responses mice, i.t.-treated with LPS, using specific Mer-blocking antibody. At 4 h and 24 after LPS treatment, expression protein alveolar macrophages lung tissue decreased, sMer BALF increased significantly, activation increased. Pretreatment anti-Mer antibody did not influence levels levels. Anti-Mer significantly...

We present a nonconventional membrane surface modification approach that utilizes topography to manipulate the tribology of foulant accumulation on water desalination membranes via imprinting submicron titanium dioxide (TiO2) pillar patterns onto molecularly structured, flat surface. This versatile overcomes constraint conventional relying interfacial polymerization inevitably leads formation ill-defined topography. Compared nonpatterned membranes, patterned showed significantly improved...

To evaluate the long-term influence of residual bone height (RBH), sinus membrane perforation and presence voids on survival implants placed simultaneously with lateral maxillary floor augmentation (MSFA).A total 207 patients (613 implants) who underwent MSFA from 1999 to 2003 followed up until 2018 were included in this study. RBH marginal loss assessed using a series panoramic periapical radiographs. Cumulative rates (CSR) log-rank tests hazard ratios implant failure according RBH,...

This study aimed to investigate the association between genetic burden of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and loss tolerance self-nuclear antigens in preclinical stage. We analysed data from 349 Korean individuals who tested positive for autoantibodies stage, along with 33,596 healthy controls 2057 patients SLE. Genome-wide pathway-specific polygenic risk scores (PRSs) SLE were calculated based on 180 known non-human leukocyte antigen (non-HLA) loci, HLA-DRB1 classical alleles, predefined...

Enterococcus faecalis is one of the most common opportunistic pathogens responsible for nosocomial infections, and its LTA known as an important virulence factor causing inflammatory responses. As chemokines play a key role in diseases by triggering leukocyte infiltration into infection site, we purified EfLTA investigated effect on expression chemokines, IP-10, MIP-1α, MCP-1, murine macrophages. induced these at mRNA protein levels. TLR2, CD14, MyD88 were involved EfLTA-induced chemokine...
