A simple and efficient two-step method was implemented for the synthesis of ethyl 7-chloro-4-oxo-1,4-dihydro-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxylate. Comparing with reported Grohe-Heitzer reaction, time reaction steps have been reduced using microwave irradiation. This compound is an important intermediate preparation naphthyridone derivatives which received significant attention due to their broad spectrum biological activity.
