Tuber aestivum, commonly known as the summer truffle, is typically found in various parts of Europe where it grows naturally. However, its presence Portugal was not confirmed until now. The first fruit bodies were collected April 2024 at stone pine stands (Alenquer and Arruda dos Vinhos, Lisbon) June holm oak (Salir, Faro). These specimens are characterized by hypogeous, subglobose, black ascomata with a peridium surface covered pyramidal warts. Ascopores subglobose-to-broadly ellipsoid,...
Terfezia species are obligate symbiotic partners of several xerophytic host plants, mainly belonging to the Cistaceae. Yet, their mycorrhizal associations with members genus Cistus remain poorly characterized and potential application in desert truffle cultivation remains unexplored. This work provides first anatomic descriptions mycorrhizae formed vitro by four (i.e., T. arenaria; extremadurensis; fanfani, pini) C. ladanifer salviifolius, two most widespread common acidic soils. All tested...
Stone pine (Pinus pinea L.), like other conifers, forms ectomycorrhizas (ECM), which have beneficial impact on plant growth in natural environments and forest ecosystems. An vitro co-culture of stone microshoots with pure mycelia isolated ECM sporocarps was used to overcome the root cessation not only but also improve development during acclimation phase. Pisolithus arhizus (Scop.) Rauschert Lactarius deliciosus (L. ex Fr.) S.F. Gray fungi, were collected, cultured microshoots. Samples P. L....
During ectomycorrhizal (ECM) establishment, biochemical signals lead to the development of complex structures in both plant and fungus that ultimately result formation an ectomycorrhiza. The cross-talk between partners begins before physical contact. Our objective was investigate chemical nature during first stages vitro mycorrhization Pinus pinea with Pisolithus arhizus. For this purpose a double-phase solid–liquid medium expressly developed for co-culture order simplify extraction further...
A new Terfezia species associated with Tuberaria guttata, lusitanica sp. nov., is described from Spain and Portugal. This claim it’s based on the specimen’s distinct morphology unique ITS-rDNA sequence. Macro micro descriptions phylogenetic analyses of ITS data are provided for T. discussed in relation to similar spiny-spored species. differs morphologically other Terfezia, that share same habitat, by combination its ochre peridium colour spores size, nrDNA sequence all sequenced Among...
This inventory represents the first list of epigeous macrofungi collected in Parque de Natureza Noudar (Barrancos, Alentejo, Portugal). Throughout 3 years 162 taxa were registered, from which 8 are new species for Portugal and 77 Alentejo. Some them considered rare whereas others have been suggested to acquire a conservation status.
Mata Nacional da Margaraça represents a rare example where the Atlantic climate influences perpetuity of small enclave previously widespread laurel forest. The higher relative humidity values (> 80%), which are almost constant all year long and mild temperatures, rarely exceeding 30°C, even in dry season (June to September), create an insular-like effect. biological communities exhibit transitory character. forest is dominated by Quercus robur Castanea sativa, yet suber, although less...
The Serra de São Mamede Natural Park is a biodiversity hotspot in the broad region of Alentejo, Portugal, where influence Atlantic Ocean allows for continuity Eurosiberian-like forest heart Mediterranean region. park therefore unique among few protected areas Portugal. We attempt to describe macrofungal diversity first time. Our results reveal rich and diverse assembly species (239 taxa), particular, mycorrhizal (145 taxa). Furthermore, 26 taxa are newly recorded from while 81...
Developing below the soil surface desert, truffles are hard to find. Within Terfezia genus, at least 18 species described and many endemic Mediterranean basin. Ecological geographic information key factors for diagnosis, so far believed be linked either acidic or basic soils specific plant hosts. Thus, we have looked diversity within a relatively homogeneous geographical area in Portugal that is suitable these covered different dominant host species. We analyzed observed intraspecific...
